Japanese fighters have inflated, higher rankings than they deserve on Boxrec

Post by ordsalloriginator »

Masanori Rikiishi number 1 at Super featherweight
Jin Sasaki, number 2 at welterweight
Andy Hiraoka, number 3 at light welterweight
Shuichiro Yoshino number 9 at lightweight
Mikito Nakano number 10 at Featherweight

WTF!!!

Been noticing this lately. Boxrec need to sort this out

Rikiishi, Sasaki, Hiraoka in the top 3 of their divisions when they aren't world champions and havent done nothing, placed above current world champions is a joke.

Yes... it is a flaw of purely mathematical rating systems...

I've seen this before... twice notably.... the strangest was ~15 years ago with Georgia (the country, not the US state). I believe there have been issues with South Africa as well.

When you have a significant presence in a location where there isn't much cross-pollination, this can happen. There are enough competitors and enough competition to push these boxers up the rankings. I think in this case, it is even worse... when they do compete against outsiders, it seems like it is often at home -- home advantage.
