Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
Its strange how an experienced top level fighter like AJ is still keeping his hands low, have an upright-stiff boxing posture and have poor fighting instincts? In all of his years of training and fighting he supposed to develope some boxing skills, have a good muscle memory and learn the boxing fundamentals ? I mean its strange to fight in such a reckless way.
Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
Said it a dozen times its , muscle memory practiced ,and learnt in the gym , comes from being trained by boxercise celebrity trainers , , who do not pick up , correct , and punish, bad habits being formed , should of stayed with the guy who started him off in the ameteurs , or Rob mCKARACKEN ,, its obvious he goes in the gym does has he wants , how he wants , makes terrible mistakes , develops terrible habits and then pays the price , Christ AJ wants to be world champ again its not rocket science , he just needs to get back in there for 8-10 months and be made to PRACTICE PRACTICE , and PRACTICE basics , starting from the feet , followed by a jab , and the basic punches , keeping the hands up , .apollo creed wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024, 02:31 Its strange how an experienced top level fighter like AJ is still keeping his hands low, have an upright-stiff boxing posture and have poor fighting instincts? No point having a trainer , who can go on u tube or tv , with a peice of chalk , a board , and explain the obvious whilst he's brushing his hair away , and smiling at the camera , if said trainer cannot even tell you , that you dont wing an upercut from half a mile away while your dropping your other hand , trouble is the coaches who are capable and can spot what needs to be spotted , are either not high profile enough or want too much money .
It really is quite basic , definetly not rocket science unlike some coaches would have them believe ,, he needs to go back with Rob , if thats possible , i think Mcguigan is a good shout , been impressed recently by that young fella , and i've always liked the Ingles there resume speaks for itself

Do you think Rob would have him back?
Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
Bad camp/bad coaching or boxer arrogance.
Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
A very simple case of lack of serious opposition and over-confidence .. added to an over-inflated ego and a cheer leader guy pretending to be a trainer/coach. Real bad mix in boxing.
We seen recently a similar thing at heavyweight, with a less devastating result. A guy turns up expecting a walk around .. and gets put on his arse, bashed up, and just managing to get a decision.
AJ, unfortunately for him, was in with a world class boxer not a 40 yr old guy having his first ever boxing fight: so the result was a clinical KO loss.

Probably. Too many yes-men and arse lickers around him. Also I guess he loves to be pampered by his 'crew'. Another reality check for AJ but at least he is being paid very , very well. No hunger and no killer instincts anymore with those big money. A poor version of Wladimir K.tonyevs wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024, 04:45 A very simple case of lack of serious opposition and over-confidence .. added to an over-inflated ego and a cheer leader guy pretending to be a trainer/coach. I don't think AJ would have taken DD lightly.
The simple answer is The David Price Syndrome
It's as simple as that.

thats the million dollar question which a lot of people around hime must be really struggling with .
Did he freeze - did he overlook DD and have to much confidence - has his chin really gone - was the comeback a hype train beating easier opponents .
Who knows !
For me there are some serious concerns about his demeanour in the fight and how easy he moves on to saying he wants a rematch and go again etc .
And of course this makes Ben Davidson look like a novice

Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
AJs always been vulnerable to a big puncher, and I’d include Ruiz there, speed = power etc so DD was always a big threat here - and the answer is pretty simple, the overconfidence he had from knocking over MMA and ex sparring partners led to him getting caught cold. Any skills were hard to reach after that, because I think he was concussed from nearly start to finish.
Hapless corner didn’t help either. Plus all this calling out McGuigan as a genius predicting what was gonna happen in round five on the radio …well come on, I think everyone knew what was gonna happen in round five.
But saying that, Mac is an excellent trainer and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the AJ corner for the rematch - which he has a chance of winning.

Also didn’t McCracken save his amateur career and get him off a certain prison sentence?stevec@france wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024, 06:23no - they humiliated him

However if Joshua apologised sincerely and gave a nice payday I think Rob might be up for it. Can’t see it happening. Joshua too arrogant
Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
AJ fought like someone who was right in the shit - because he was.
I don’t think he deserves any sort of pass for “getting his tactics wrong”. And nor does anyone else who refused to entertain beforehand, the possibility of Dubois being a threat.
Joshua isn’t nearly the fighter that many thought he was.

He has been in too many big fights to freeze at this stage in his career.by stevec@france » Today, 06:21
thats the million dollar question ...
Did he freeze - did he overlook DD and have to much confidence - has his chin really gone - was the comeback a hype train beating easier opponents .
Whilst he hasn`t got the sturdiest whiskers, the punches that put him over would have put most other top heavies of today over too; and he got back up 4 of the 5 times Dubois put him over.
His comeback opponents would not have prepared him at all for Dubois - only given him a false sense of confidence in his ability.
This may have had some substance if Joshua hadn`t already beaten some decent heavies already to prove it nonsense.by MasterG » Today, 06:18
The simple answer is The David Price Syndrome
To be fair to Shane, he immediately said it was bad advise Boxercise had given, and said it would walk AJ onto a right hand .. exactly what happened. The RBR had quite a few commenting on how it was going .. not one predicted it as clearly as Shane.by MightyWarrior » 28 minutes ago

I think he has to concentrate intensely just to maintain the basics on account of being a later comer to boxing (age 18 I believe he started out?). I think that concentration is lost when he gets hit hard, or, lands a good shot and gets excited, follows up in wreckless way. Both of these things happened in Ruiz & Dubois fights. Both times he went after a hurt guy with no regard for being timed with a counter, then both times he fell apart after getting hurt.
On the plus side, he's been good value for money in his career, not too many of his bouts have been boring.
Re: Brits, how come a seasoned top fighter like AJ fought so amateurish against DD?
Fundamentals ignored for a long time now.
You don’t become Olympic Champion or World Champion without them.
AJ has regressed significantly skill wise. It’s sad to see.
Mentality changed v Ruiz I. The shell shock during that fight was for all to see. It didn’t happen v Wlad did it?
But since Ruiz I? nah. Not the same fighter .
Current trainer can get you in shape but not much else. Imho

I don't know, but keeping your hands low and that up-right stiff posture is just so inadmissible for a pro boxer that hasn't slick-athletic defensive abilities. Ok, I get that he may be gun-shy and a mental midget but c'mon at least he should have learned to protect himself properly because its a dangerous sport for the brain. Also his footwork is stiff.Ricky wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024, 08:13apollo creed wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024, 02:31 Its strange how an experienced top level fighter like AJ is still keeping his hands low, have an upright-stiff boxing posture and have poor fighting instincts? What was weird was Joshua saying DDD was ‘sh1t’ after he’d been beating the crap out of him.

Glad i was'nt in that club , I'd have egg on my face now , Lets have it right , they could of dug my dead granny up to train AJ for that kick boxer fight , and she'd off been labeled a great trainer , dispite not saying much .
Until this guy can do what good trainers do , and thats grab some kids turn them into champs or close contenders for champion ship medals , then allow them to turn pro , and turn them into good pro's not all neccesary champs but good fighters , well until then he's just a celebrity trainer who talks a good game and has high profile mates pushing his barrow , only consistant thing about this guy is the consistant bad advice
