Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
In Wilder 3, Fury's at a career heaviest and is coming forward. Dempsey is in top shape and has the killer instinct. Dempsey drops him early and (with no standing eight count) jumps straight on him every time he gets up. Jack inside three.
Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
I don't think anybody is taking out the other inside 3 here. Dempsey is gonna jump all over Fury, and give him all kinds of hell early on. Probably knocking him down, and rocking him quite a bit. I feel like eventually Fury would start to wear him down. Fury could be hurt, and knocked down, but he's not one to fold his tent and give up easily, and I think Dempsey would find that out as well.
Fury comes back, and starts to wear on Dempsey after the 4th round, and starts to pick up some rounds. Probably hurts Dempsey back at some point between the 4th and 6th. I can see Dempsey having a final surge of aggression that sees him take another round, and possibly hurt Fury again in the process around the 7th, but eventually Fury's size, ranginess, and durability in his own right starts to be too much for Dempsey who is wearing out from the effort of having to face down such a giant of a man.
Fury wins by KO around the 9th or 10th round in an amazing fight I think.

Sorry, but I'm with Ambling Alp. You guys are underestimating Dempsey's ability to knock out bigger men like Willard and yes, Fury was bigger. I remembered what Usyk said that being bigger and stronger doesn't them including Fury better and Usyk proved you guys wrong by beating Fury convincingly. For Dempsey, he would slip through Fury's jabs and long range punches with his great bobbing and weaving in order to make Fury punching down to Dempsey's size that caused him the fight like Willard did who fell for Dempsey's trap. Dempsey would knock Fury down several times, but Fury would not recover unlike the all 3 Wilder fights and Dempsey would wear him down with body punches as well. One more big blow with either a big left hook or right hand from Dempsey would knock Fury down and out or Fury get stopped on his feet in 6 rounds. People forgot Dempsey recovered from a knockdown like he did against Luis Firpo and Fury would get the worst beating in one of his lifetimes.

Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
Those big men Dempsey beat spent their careers getting beaten by much smaller men some of whom were even smaller than Demsey so how is him beating them proof of anything?
Losing to Usyk when past prime is hardly comparable to losing to Gunboat Smith or George Rodel

Usyk proved his point by destroying the myth of the super heavyweight being stronger and better by beating Fury.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2024, 22:27 Those big men Dempsey beat spent their careers getting beaten by much smaller men some of whom were even smaller than Demsey so how is him beating them proof of anything?

What does that have to do with Fury being a far better fighter than Willard and Morris? How is losing to Usyk when past prime and out of shape comparable to a prime Willard losing to a 180 pound Gunboat Smith?scorpio83 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2024, 06:41Usyk proved his point by destroying the myth of the super heavyweight being stronger and better by beating Fury.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2024, 22:27 Those big men Dempsey beat spent their careers getting beaten by much smaller men some of whom were even smaller than Demsey so how is him beating them proof of anything?

Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
Gee, it's almost like weight is often severely overrated when rating heavyweights, isn't it?
btw-Willard had been a pro for just two years when he lost a 20-round decision to Smith.
Interesting that one of your guys who, who was more experienced and lost to journeyman, he had not reached his prime yet.
And we know Fury was far better than Willard and Morris because of all of Fury's big wins?

Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
Can see either winning this. Easy to conjure up a scenario where one guy wins.
Dempsey usually started fast. If after 3 rounds it wasn't over he would hold back for the later rounds.
50-50

Furys only loss is to Usyk, Morris and Willard have losses to middleweights/light heavies throughout their careers. Wlad and Klitschko are obviously better wins than anything Morris/Willard have

Would Dempsey be allowed to enter this fight with not making a HW limit?

Re: Jack Dempsey (vs Willard) vs Tyson Fury (Wilder 3)
It'd be competitive for a while but Dempsey is not Usyk or Holyfield. Most of the large men Dempsey put away were large stationary targets just waiting to get dropped. Let's not forget that the bulk of his career benefited greatly from there being no neutral corner rule, hitting men as they were getting up. Not to mention 3-6oz horse hair gloves.
For about 4 rounds Dempsey would be in there, and then the tide would begin to turn. In today's world? Dempsey probably loses by TKO 8-10. No referee is gonna allow a guy to get smothered to death, or jabbed to death, in 2024. I think Dempsey might even be penalized points along the way, as brutal as he could be.
Fury lost by split decision to an all-time great pound per pound fighter. I don't think Dempsey could do that against Usyk. It'd be like facing a larger version of Gene Tunney who has a higher ring IQ and harder punch.
I think Dempsey would earn his respect, don't get me wrong, but it's very hard to accurately assess guys like Dempsey because he only had a handful of fights where he couldn't stand over his opponent and that was when he was passed his best.
Was he not getting outboxed rather easily against Sharkey until he landed low blows forcing Sharkey to complain and Dempsey sucker punched him? Didn't Dempsey always have trouble with movers? Even the 3rd Wilder fight version of Fury was far more skilled and quicker and agile than Willard easily.
Watch that first round again with Wilder throwing a crazy level of jabs in the first round to the body, and going for broke. Fury wasn't phased. I think people underestimate how quickly Fury recovers from being hurt. That 9th round with Usyk was bad but Fury came back strong in round 10, 11 and 12. No giant Dempsey fought had that kind of resilience, and Fury would dwarf the giants Dempsey fought.
And no it's not just a matter of size it is everything else. Fury has skills, speed, heart, determination, ring generalship, quick recovery, and has a good engine for a man his size. Willard, Fulton, Morris and Firpo were basically just big, strong men with rudimentary skills and little else. I can name a lot of men 185-190 pounds who could beat guys like that.
Usyk is much bigger than Dempsey. It's not really the same thing. Usyk is bigger than Holyfield. It's comparing apples to oranges really. I might be wrong, but I can't necessarily see Dempsey being a brutal killer for 12 rounds. He's got to slow down at some point. That's where Fury would make him pay.

Not really the same category really, especially with his wrestling abilities Fury destroys Dempsey who at the end of the day was very overhyped even for his time.
