Andre Ward vs Artur Beterbiev

Post by EdwardRevolver1993 »

Andre Ward from the 2nd Kovalev fight vs Artur Beterbiev from past Saturday for all the marbles at LHW.

How it goes?

Ward pts, he would figure Beterbiev out better than the other way round.

Probably. But the intriguing part for me is - would Ward be able to muscle Beterbiev on the inside? Ward could do it with many. But Beterbiev could be an exception.

The way Beterbiev is built, plus - the fact, that he is pretty capable at close, too. Capable, rough and strong.

Would it all mean, that Ward would have to fight at a distance more than usual?

Yes, his strength (Beterbiev) is something else. I saw him doing some serious benchpressing on YouTube. I don't think there would be too many at LH as strong as he is.

Btw, what do you think about his fight against Bivol fight from past Saturday? How did you score it?

Great fight, I didn't score it. I hardly ever score fights unless maybe I'm with someone else and we can compare scorecards after. I had the impression Bivol edged it.

Beterbiev beats Ward imo. Ward didn't have the legs that Bivol has and inside, Beterbiev is way too strong for Ward.

I thought Bivol won, too. But I'm planning to rewatch and rescore it.

I can see that. Overall, it's tough to go against Ward. But the light-heavyweight version of Ward was more stationary, less energetic and wasn't throwing as much combinations as the Super Six version of Ward. However, he was still effective.

That would've been an intriguing match-up.

Dre did a lot of little things right. He outfoxes Beterbiev to a decision.

I guess, Beterbiev could win close in a manner, how Kovalev did, when he was robbed. But Ward wouldn't be able to do with Beter, what he had done in the rematch vs Kovalev, because Beter's punch resistance is much better.

Either Beterbiev takes a decision or stopping Ward late out of nowhere.

Is ward allowed to hold and give him the old nutcracker?

Depends on how much dirty tactics would ref allow to Ward. Big part of Ward game was clinching. Good luck clinch with someone as strong as Beterbiev. Beterbiev stoppage :box:

really interesting fight, bert might have been the guy who was strong enough inside to finally catch up to ward. though ward was quicker and of course has a very high ring iq.

Considering that Ward usually had most of his success by pushing guys around, and roughing 'em up on the inside I think he has a really hard time with Beterbiev. I think Ward would likely come in thinking he'd box and move, and he better hope he's got the legs to do it because if he gets into an inside fight with Beterbiev I don't think he can beat him that way, and I also don't think he could avoid it happening because it's his natural tendency to try to assert himself that way, and Beterbiev is good at drawing guys into that kinda fight.

I think Beterbiev would've knocked him down a few times, and taken a UD.
