A look at welterweight superstar Rube Ferns

Post by Benny The Kid »

Here's the profile for welterweight superstar Rube Ferns

quote by Ferns 1902 "Man lives but once and the sun of the boxer shines bright but for a short time.I am in my prime. My sun is shining and i will hasten to make a little hay. I'm coming for y'all"

Ferns showed up Overweight by 13lbs to meet Bobby Dobbs. He ran through the city in 1897 running with trolley cars trying to reduce his flesh. He was thoroughly worn out for the fight. He never made that mistake ever again as he became a real life Forrest Gump and literally walked from coast to coast to his future fights. Whenever he entered the ring his 1st goal was to outlast any poor sucker who thought he was in better shape because no one did more roadwork than the rube. He had the endurance of Marciano and was completely fearless because he felt he could outlast everyone. He stayed in barns over expensive hotels to save his money he often dressed like a hobo. He was the definition of a blue collar Fighter just like James Braddock after him. He roamed from town to town getting to know each & every newspaper editor who would write about his stories. He was very much a person who got the most out of his natural ability.

Ferns would always say he "was no rube in the ring"
