I was very pleased when Turki announced that he was bringing back The Ring, especially in print form.
£60 for twelve issues seemed very good when I went on the website to subscribe. However, when you enter your location at checkout the purchase price jumps to a whopping £155. Postage to the UK is 95 quid!!!
This is totally ridiculous.
Needless to say, I did not pay it.
You also have to be careful when subscribing to the Digital edition. It is advertised as only £10 a year. However, there is an extra charge for sales tax and for converting from dollars to Sterling. So you ten pound subscription becomes a few pounds more. This used to happen when Golden Boy had it as well.
Hopefully my local WHSmith will stock it. I shall spend half an hour in the shop flicking through it then put it back on the shelf!

I was tempted but the 95 quid postage etc put me right off. Turki said they are only doing 20k print runs to start with.

In the 80s you got way more bang for your buck with Sugar's Boxing Illustrated and in the 90s Glyn Leach's Boxing Monthly, who between them had all the best writers and tons of entertaining coverage. The Ring just didn't feel relevant compared to them.

You can reboot it under a new editor but realistically how good can it be with millennial writers staffing it? Plus to judge the standard of boxing discourse online I fear the age of reading and literacy among its fan base may have passed.

Disagree, a Bert Sugar's Boxing Illustrated from 1988 is old news and still a very entertaining read.

If you literally just need to know results, yes, you have the internet. If you crave something more, physical media is the way. It just has to be done right.

Even in the 80s it was always about 3 months out of date. You had to go to ceefax or teletext to find results.

The Ring always felt like a less intelligent version of Boxing Monthly, but after the latter's demise I'd probably buy it if it was in Smiths.

Disagree, a Bert Sugar's Boxing Illustrated from 1988 is old news and still a very entertaining read.

If you literally just need to know results, yes, you have the internet. If you crave something more, physical media is the way. It just has to be done right.

Generally speaking journalism and sports writing has slowly been degrading.
