Matchroom announce Pat Brown debut undercard for March 28

British Olympian Pat Brown will kick off his professional career on March 28 when he faces Vladimir Reznicek re at Planet Ice in Altrincham, England.

The fight will headline an NXTGEN card, promoted by Matchroom Boxing and shown live on DAZN.

The contest will be a homecoming of sorts for the 25-year-old Brown, who lost a 4-1 decision to Brazil’s Keno Machado in the opening round of the Paris Olympics last summer. He is from nearby Manchester, England and signed with Matchroom last November. Since then he has been training at V.I.P. Gym in Manchester suburb Astley under trainers Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, preparing for his pro debut.

Reznicek, 15-2-2 (6 KOs) of Czech Republic is 11 years the senior of Brown at 36 and has a record of 1-5-1 outside of his native country. His lone victory outside the Czech Republic did come in England, however, when he defeated Ossie Jervier on points at Bethnal Green in 2016.

"Pat Brown has it all and I can't wait to get this journey started on March 28, He's a huge-punching cruiserweight and he's got massive support in and around Manchester,” said Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn.

"He'll be headlining a NXTGEN card on his professional debut and he's already taken over 2,000 tickets himself. He's going to be one of the biggest ticket sellers in the country and the kid can really fight.”

The rest of the card will include a grudge match between unbeaten British lightweights Cameron Vuong, 7-0 (3 KOs), and Jordan Flynn, 11-0-1 (1 KO), plus English super middleweight champion Reese Farnhill, 11-0 (4 KOs) defending his title against Mark Dickinson, 7-1 (2 KOs). Also slated for the card is the professional debut of local light heavyweight Conner Tudsbury, plus Rhiannon Dixon (10-1, 1 KO), William Crolla (6-0, 5 KOs) and Taylor Bevan, 2-0 (2 KOs).

"Cameron Vuong had a tough fight last time out against Gavin Gwynne. We want that rematch if he comes through Jordan Flynn. Mark Dickinson needs to get the win against Reece Farnhill coming off that loss in Prizefighter in Japan,” added Hearn.

Keep reading people say he's "huge punching", are they just regurgitating Hearn's flannel or have I got a different idea about what "huge punching" means?

I am looking forward to watching Brown in the pros and am not ragging him, he'll be matched right and likely have an exciting career as he's got a good aggressive style but I'll be surprised if he is icing people above a certain level.

Those of us who are a bit older will remember Tony Bellew in the amateurs, now he was a huge puncher at that level. Knocking grown blokes cold as a kid.

I know what you mean. It's rare to see and I didn't see it from Brown in the ams.

Bellew’s KO of Jon Lewis Dickinson in the ABA final was a big one. From memory, seemed to spin JLD’s headguard right round.

Yh he is. They announced that a while back.

Nice for him.

Hometown debut and main event.

Hearn gonna hype the crap out of him.

He needs his Manchester talent.

So what's the deal with Brown? Obviously a former Olympian but why's he headlining a 6 rounder on his debut? Big ticket seller in Manchester? Exciting style? Seems odd, Eddie's signed loads of Olympic medalists and can't remember him having them top the bill on their debut

But his stable is very thin at the minute. I think he is going to try and get something going with Brown and Tudsbury in support. I think it's a good move. It should be a great atmosphere, much better than the same number in the arena with Zelfa topping the bill.

The cheapest tickets for this show start at £40.00 each (taxes and fees not included). But, you can book a party at the same venue for £21 per person, and that includes nametags, skate rental, food (menu available here), an hour of ice time, and complimentary hot drinks. Budget accordingly.

Hard to get excited about this. Poor even by a NxtGen standard.

Yep its another average card from Eddie, there might be some good match ups but surprised Vuong/Flynn isn't headlining

But we can't moan about his poor UK shows and then moan when he tries to build something. And, as you say, Vuong is in a good fight.

Although I think Eddie's cards have lost that bit of star quality in the last year or 2 i do it think the matchmaking has been a lot better from top to bottom, not every fight has to feature a world beater but as long as their well matched then I'm happy

Some of his comments make me think he’s trying to thin his stable down. Marc Castro, who he’s had for quite a while, lost in Puerto Rico and Hearn in the post match interviews was almost going as far as to say ‘if he isn’t good enough I don’t want to be wasting time, if he can’t beat these guys now he ain’t winning major honours.’ And sure enough Castro hasn’t boxed on any of his cards since.

Castro came through early with Pacheco and Ammo etc, he's never set the heather alight, matchrooms stable is so vast it's only natural if you don't shine or sell tickets your gonna have to make way

Plus Marc Castro looks like Elon Musk so it's only fair

vuong will beat flynn easy, flynn's not that good. but he has an unbeaten record and some 'beef' with vuong, so it can be sold as a good fight with both being domestic prospects i guess tbf.

Vuong should win. Flynn is ordinary. Vuong’s not that good either and seems a bit of a tool.

As to Brown he’s getting a big build up. How good is he? I
