Clinton Woods
Has anyone heard anything about his plans? Is he just going to wait around for the winner of Griffen/Gonzalez? They're not fighting for another month, so it would be around July/August at the earliest for his mandatory?
Am I asking too much to think of a fairly keep-busy fight? Maybe even against someone like Barney? Would a fight with Tiozzo be coming from cuckoo kand?

The Light Heavyweight devision isn't that bad, I would like to see him establish himself as a champion before thinking of unification. I think he should fight a British LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT in his first voluntary defence. Barney, Oakey or Oboh would be good. Then he should fight his mandatory (either Griffin or Gonzales would provide a sturn test and would establish him as more than a "paper" champion). Then he should think about unification.
I think he beats Tiozzo, at 32 he should go for the big one in his 3rd defence.... The Johnson vs Tarver winner.

Hmm, nobody else has been keen to give Oboh a shot, so why should Clinton, that's what I can imagine them thinking, and I wouldn't blame him. Clinton is looking to cash in on his belt, I fail to see how a fight with Oboh is going to do that. Oboh may be highly regarded by some in boxing circles, and there might be a certain amount of Kudos to beating him, but he's not exactly a draw.

Oboh could give Woods all kinds of trouble.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Hmm, nobody else has been keen to give Oboh a shot, so why should Clinton, that's what I can imagine them thinking, and I wouldn't blame him. Quick, strong, decent punch, durable and very awkward.
Good fighter, Oboh.

Roy Jones was negotiating with Woods for a rematch. That is if Roy does decide to keep fighting.
Roy is shot and his glass chin is exposed. He lost his speed and reflexes and now he cant run away from punches like he used to. But he still figures he can whip Woods again. (the first fight was so one sided that he thinks he can do that again with certainty).
I think Roy has a very good chance to beat Woods again, but it is no longer a certain thing. If Roy slipped even more since his second ko loss, then Woods may give him a third ko defeat.
I think it is 50/50. Slightly favouring Roy. (ok, maybe 55/45 for Roy)

I've seen Oboh fight quite a few times, he's got talent, but he's not world class for me. He pushes his punches out too much. He's avoided for sure, as he's awkward, but I think Cliinton would outclass him.Graham Brett wrote:Oboh could give Woods all kinds of trouble.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Hmm, nobody else has been keen to give Oboh a shot, so why should Clinton, that's what I can imagine them thinking, and I wouldn't blame him. I don't think there were any negotiations. Woods' camp mentioned it as a possibility, and Jones said they hadn't discussed it. All he did was contact Woods' people to congratulate him on getting a title, nothing more.jab wrote:Roy Jones was negotiating with Woods for a rematch. That is if Roy does decide to keep fighting.

Yes I hate when people ride roughshod over Jones and say he has a glass chin cos of his last two fights. When a style like his is based on reflexes then age can just catch up so quick and you get hit by shots you could easily dodge before. Jones coming down from Heavyweight just accelerated this I feel.knockout wrote:down 3 times in a 16 year pro career..... china chinned......nickd wrote:Roy does not have a glass chin, he's just old now.
just like Ali, everyone said he had good reflexes but i have seen him fight (against Berbick) and he was nothing......dunno what all the fuss is about

I heard various rumours. One was that he was thinking of fighting Roy Jones Jr. Another was that he was considering a rematch with Glencoffe Johnson. I don't think Clinton could beat Johnson. He certainly didn't in his first two fights. Who knows with Jones after the recent losses?
Did anybody give any credit to that Calazaghe rumour?

I Still think Clinton CAN beat Johnson - he showed enough climpses that with the right approach (view his effort vs Ashley) he can win this fight.
Woods has impressed abroad with his performance vs Hoye - I was on a US forum and there was a few discussions about how good a fight Woods vs Garray would be.
I don't think it will be that financially rewarding, but what a cracking fight it would be - their styles would suit.

I didn't realise til after the fight that Hoye had come in such a strong favourite. I'd never heard of him before, but when Clinton Woods a few people on a few forums acted really shocked.
The general rule of thumb is if a fighter has an undefeated record, yet you've never heard of him, they aint that good and aint fought anyone.
