Jersey boy Vito Mielnicki Jnr headlining at home on June 21

Vito Mielnicki Jnr will return to his home state of New Jersey for a headlining fight on June 21.

The 22-year-old middleweight from Roseland, New Jersey, will face unbeaten Polish fighter Kamil Gardzielik at Prudential Center in nearby Newark. The news was first reported by The Ring’s Keith Idec.

The fight will stream live on ESPN+, though the card will be promoted by Vito Mielnicki Snr’s company, GH3 Promotions, and not Top Rank, which promotes Mielnicki, a Top Rank source confirmed to Boxing Scene.

Mielnicki Snr last promoted one of his son’s fights in December 2023, when he knocked out Salim Larbi in one round, also at Prudential Center, which is the home arena for the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils. The fight will be the fourth at the venue for Mielnicki Jnr, who turned pro there as a 17-year-old in 2019.

Mielnicki Jnr, 20-1-1 (12 KOs), will be fighting for the first time since his draw with Connor Coyle in February at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Mielnicki is now based in Houston, Texas, where he trains under Ronnie Shields.

Gardzielik, 19-0 (4 KOs), a 32-year-old from Warsaw, Poland, will be fighting for the first time in the United States after a career exclusively in his home country. Gardzielik last fought in November, winning a majority decision over the 4-14 Lukasz Barabasz in a six-round fight.

Calls to Mielnicki Jnr and Mielnicki Snr seeking comment were not immediately responded to.

Newark has historically attracted sizable crowds for Polish fighters.

The rest of the card is expected to feature another one of Top Rank’s prospects, Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba, 15-0 (9 KOs), in the co-main event. He will face Norman Neely, 15-1 (10 KOs), of Paterson, New Jersey.

The two fighters should be familiar with one another, as they both train out of True Warriors Boxing Club in Paterson under different coaches. The 29-year-old Knyba, who now resides in Warren, New Jersey, headlined the last boxing event at Prudential Center on February 1, stopping fellow Polish big man Andrzej Wawrzyk in three rounds.

“I think it’s a good local matchup,” Knyba’s manager, Lukasz Kownacki, told BS. “They’re at similar points in their career where they’re both trying to step up to the next level. I think it’ll be a great fight.”

Also slated for the card is Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson, 15-2 (9 KOs), of Baltimore, Maryland, who is promoted by Mielnicki Snr, plus the professional debut of U.S. national team member Emmanuel Chance of nearby East Orange, New Jersey.

I thought vito was a come forward boxer puncher but his backfoot game is something i didn’t expect he showed patience, he’s gained a fan from me, he’s young by the time he’s 26-27 he’ll be a monster.

Vito Mielnicki Jnr heading back to Newark to take on Kamil Gardzielik

Vito Mielnicki Jnr has been paired with Kamil Gardzielik when he returns to the ring at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on June 21.

The New Jersey-born middleweight contender takes on the Polish-born Gardzielik over 10 rounds with an all-heavyweight 10-rounder slated in the co-feature between Damian Knyba and Marcin Siwy.

“I’m excited to come back to Prudential Center,” said the 20-1-1 (12 KOs) Mielnicki. “My family, friends, and supporters from home will be there. Every time we fight at Prudential Center, it’s electric. I’ve knocked out all four of my opponents there, and I’m looking to make 5 for 5. I have Polish roots, and it will be a big night for the Polish community to support Damian and myself.”

Mielnicki made his debut on a Top Rank bill at the same venue in July 2019, winning with a first-round stoppage of Tamarcus Smith. He’s been back to the Prudential Center three times since, having signed a long-term deal with Top Rank back at the start of 2024.

Gardzielik is 19-0 (4 KOs) and yet to fight outside of Poland.

The 15-0 (9 KOs) heavyweight hope Knyba is looking to follow in the footsteps of Polish cruiserweight/heavyweight star Tomasz Adamek, who was big business at the Prudential Center some 20 years ago.

“I am thrilled to fight again in my second home, the Prudential Center,” said Knyba. “My opponent has tremendous experience and an unbeaten record. I will be at my best on June 21 to take his ‘0’.”

Last November, he put an injury-plagued 2024 behind him by stopping Richard Lartey in three rounds, and in February he halted Andrzej Wawrzyk.

Siwy is 25-0-1 (12 KOs), and while he hasn’t boxed since 2022, he has been competing in MMA in Poland.

Also on the bill, Baltimore middleweight Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson, who is 15-2 (8 KOs), boxes William Townsel, 8-2 (6 KOs), over eight rounds and East Orange bantamweight Mannie Chance, 1-0, fights in a four-rounder. Connecticut-born heavyweight Ali Feliz, 5-0 (4 KOs) boxes in a six-rounder, and Philadelphia’s Daiyaan Butt, 20-2 (10 KOs), meets Jersey City’s Mike Lee, 11-3 (7 KOs), over eight. In an eight-rounder at welterweight, Paterson, New Jersey, heavyweight Norman Neely, 15-1 (10 KOs), ends a 15-month period out of the ring to face 6-1-1 (5 KOs) James Willis in an eight and Newark welterweight debutant Muadh Abdus-Salaam looks to get off the mark against Roberto Cantos, 1-3, over four rounds.

“We are thrilled to bring Vito back to Prudential Center, a beautiful venue that has played such an instrumental role in his career,” said Top Rank’s Bob Arum. “This is a loaded card full of talented fighters in competitive matchups, and I expect a passionate crowd on hand for a great night of fights.”

Brandun Lee to return June 21 against Elias Araujo in Newark

Junior welterweight Brandun Lee will end a nearly year-long layoff on June 21 when he competes in an eight-round fight at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Lee, 29-0 (23 KOs), of La Quinta, California, will face Elias Araujo, 22-5 (9 KOs), of Fresno, California, on the undercard of a 10-round middleweight headliner between Vito Mielnicki Jnr and Kamil Gardzielik.

The show is promoted by Top Rank and Rising Star Promotions, though Lee is signed to Queensberry Promotions, which is placing him on the card in a stay-busy fight.

The 26-year-old Lee, who is managed by Split-T Management, last fought in July 2024, defeating Colombia’s Juan Anacona on points on the Joe Joyce-Derek Chisora card in London.

Araujo, 37, is coming off a second-round knockout win over Angelo Arguello in Bogota, Colombia, in March. He had lost four of his previous five fights to tough competition, including unbeaten prospects Giovanni Cabrera, Omar Juarez and Yeis Solano. His lone stoppage defeat came in 2021, to Raymond Muratalla – though that stoppage was panned as being premature.

The rest of the ESPN+ televised card will feature a 10-round clash of unbeaten Polish heavyweights when Damian Knyba, 15-0 (9 KOs), meets Marcin Siwy, 25-0-1 (12 KOs); the home-state debut of Camden-based cruiserweight Jamar Talley, 2-0 (2 KOs), against Kurt Fleming, 3-0 (2 KOs); and New Jersey prospects Emmanuel Chance, Dwyke Flemmings Jnr, Lisandra Contreras and Kahshad Elliot in separate fights.

VITO MIELNICKI JR. DROPS KAMIL GARDZIELIK, SHUTS HIM OUT ON ALL 3 SCORECARDS IN 10-ROUNDER

NEWARK, New Jersey – Vito Mielnicki Jr. intended to knock out Kamil Gardzielik to send his fans home completely satisfied Saturday night.

The young middleweight instead dominated the Polish veteran over the course of 10 rounds and convincingly won a unanimous decision at Prudential Center. Mielnicki (21-1-1, 12 KOs) knocked Gardzielik down during the third round and shut him out on all three scorecards in a main event ESPN+ streamed from the home arena of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

Judges Lynne Carter, Mark Consentino and Paul Wallace all scored their fight 100-89 for Mielnicki.

A 10-round majority draw with Connor Coyle (21-0-1, 9 KOs) in his last fight motivated Mielnicki more than usual to perform better before his home crowd. Mielnicki grew up in Roseland, New Jersey, about 20 minutes from Prudential Center.

“I was happy with my performance,” Mielnicki said during his post-fight interview. “This camp we worked on sticking to the game plan, not getting out of my game plan when I hurt somebody. I felt as though we did a great job of that.”

Mielnicki, 23, produced this much-needed win at the same venue where he made his pro debut as a 17-year-old high school student nearly six years ago. Gardzielik, 32, entered their bout unbeaten, but he had defeated a low level of opposition overall and had knocked out only 21 percent of his opponents.

By the 10th round, it seemed clear the crafty Gardzielik (19-1, 4 KOs) would take Mielnicki the distance. Mielnicki controlled the seventh, eighth and ninth rounds, but he couldn’t hurt Gardzielik the way he had done in previous rounds.

A counter right hand by Mielnicki toward the end of the sixth round made Gardzielik move toward the other side of the ring. Gardzielik had difficulty dealing with Mielnicki’s pressure for much of the sixth round.

Gardzielik caught Mielnicki with a flush right hand a few seconds before the fifth round ended. Mielnicki took that shot well after controlling much of the action in the fifth round.

Mielnicki nailed Gardzielik with a right as they exchanged with just over a minute remaining in the fourth round.

Mielnicki’s right hand dropped Gardzielik with 2:07 to go in the third round. Gardzielik answered referee David Franciosi’s count in plenty of time and kept Mielnicki from hurt him again in the third round.

Gardzielik defended himself well during the second round, other than a stiff jab Mielnicki landed early in it. Gardzielik didn’t throw many punches, though, and seemed wary of getting caught in exchanges.

Mielnicki went after Gardzielik’s body in the final minute of the opening round. Gardzielik covered up for much of those first three minutes, as Mielnicki came forward.
