Re: George Foreman passed away
A sad day in the boxing world. One of the true all-time greats of the heavyweight division dies.
His fights with Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Muhammad Ali, Ron Lyle, Gerry Cooney, Evander Holyfield, and Michael Moorer were classics. They are fights that will never be forgotten.
Big George Foreman. May he rest in peace.

RIP. Was a fan of his in the 1970s when everyone else was booing him.
Frankly liked his 1970s persona better than the 1990s one.

RIP. When I think of the hws of the 1970s, I think of Ali, Frazier, Norton and Foreman. And now they are all gone.
The win over Moorer was great. He was a funny guy. Liked him as an announcer as well. What a great guy.

Obviously, he was not great about giving boxing insight or strategy. But he was fun and often made a mediocre fight interesting.

Death of a titan.
Grew up in poverty, pulled back from a life of crime and turned his life around thru boxing. Olympic gold medal after relatively few fights, won the title by destroying one of the most lethal champs ever, regained it 20 years later at 45. Could still hang at 50. Took the Greatest to stop him.
An utter freak of nature, brute strength with great accuracy despite the deceptively crude style. Charisma through the roof. One of the great American lives.

I was convinced back in the 90's that he and Tyson would fight. It's my biggest boxing disappointment that they didn't.

He was just so much fun. Remember when he came back in the 1990s and said all that silly stuff? He training at McDonalds, they looked for his future opponents in bars etc.
As an announcer one of my favorite comments of his went something like this "There is no one in the ring as important as the referee...... (slight pause)... except for the two fighters".
