Meet the 14 year old British Boxer now fighting for Bahrain

I know that RKO and some of the Saudi Regime lovers will prob embrace this cause it's from the same region.

Dunno how you can sign someone at 14 and can change there country but must be allowed. But this shows the level of sports washing and corruption by the Arabic nations to make them legit

What you bringing my name into this?

This is ridiculous.

When I first read it, I thought maybe he has roots, but I read that they approached him wanting to sign him? wtf? Is that even allowed?

Can’t just change your nationality. He’s clearly chosen a side here.

He best have packed his bags and done one to Bahrain then.

You seem consistent in your praise and admiration for the Saudi regime. I'm glad you find this ridiculous

He is very good, but his dad is even better at getting his name out there. He is a TikTok star, etc. It's way too early to know if he's the real deal but he's in the nationals already. These types come along every so often.

Fair enough, you want to embrace sports washing by a authoritarian regime, that's grand but don't expect me to go along with it

Saudi will be replicating this soon aswell

So he's getting paid, housed, fed, watered, privately educated and given all the support he'll need to have the best chance of maximising his potential and all he has to do is become a dual British Bahraini citizen? Good on his family for giving him the opportunity.

You are right that it's happening, doesn't mean we need to cosy up to it

Bahrain has previously imported a lot of Kenyan athletes mainly and picked up medals in distance events, I guess with the popularity of Riyadh Season etc. then boxing is their next sport of choice…

Seems a great opportunity for the kid, his family would have been crazy to turn it down.

They have probably offered life changing money, citizenship, world class private schooling, housing by the beach with 12 months of reasonably decent weather (it can get cold there...) all the stuff you can get here you can get there, most of my colleagues 'drove over the bridge' to go and spend time in Bahrain - it's pleasant,

Sometimes, an offer is 'too good to refuse'.

I remember seeing Qatari athletes who were former African athletes doing this. I suspect this is another iteration of this.

I fully understand how dubious it is in terms of ethics etc. As a parent though if it was my child I would probably do the same.

I don't think RKO applauds any regime, he just updates on what is going on.

It's a strange situation but you can't blame the lad or his family, imagine your a working class kid and some rich country offer you a boat load of money, you are gonna take it arnt you?,if multimillionaire golfers can do it you can't blame a young skint kid.
