Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
....next trainer if he decides to throw Tibbsy under the bus?
Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
I saw some youtube clip at the presser, when Tibbs was giving it the show me the money!
His major meal ticket may have just run out.
Saying that fighters come and go, he will just move on.
Tough on him if Fisher does leave him, he's done a good job

Regardless who trains him he isn't going anywhere, unless he decides to be a road man and just take on anyone for a few quid.
A trainer cannot develop skills if the potential isn't there. Sadly in this case Johnny found his limit. After 16 fights that's become quite evident. It's not as if Johnny was the next big amateur superstar who had turned over.

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
This is correct. Not everyone is destined to be a great. He can switch trainers with the ambition of going further but I think people got carried away with him. You could give him all the best trainers in the world and million pound training camps and he wouldn't win a world title. He lost to someone on the same level as him who has a lot more experience, it's nothing to panic about. If it happens against another opponent of the same level then maybe he could switch it up but British title would be his limit even under the best circumstances.MasterG wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 10:25 Regardless who trains him he isn't going anywhere, unless he decides to be a road man and just take on anyone for a few quid.

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
If he was my son I would be saying get out. He must have made a lot of money for his ability. Go and do something else, he is young enough and bright enough. Every knockdown is going to have an impact and there are plenty of those to come if he stays in the game.

X 2.
I included the rugby coaches in the poll partly for a joke and partly because I think there is a real chance that if he participates in competitive sport again it might be amateur rugby, for the reasons you state.

His mam seems more up for the comeback than anyone.
Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
Normaly and especielly if he was at a lower level or even a higher level , you could say , no worries , your young , back to the drawing board , be a bit more selective and see what happens ,
BUT
He's now a name the easy fights will not be there the better fellas , well , its heavyweight he could get hurt , would'nt want to se that , because Dave shown the level he's at , Dave Allen is not bad but defo not what you would call elite , and the problem for Fisher was he woke Dave up , what i mean by that is , the first fight just made Dave more determined than he normaly is , , Daves a lazy fighter , not bad but not elite , but could ALWAYS of been better than he has been if he applied himself , reasons are probably many and varied has to why he has'nt , But for this one he was a more determinned fighter seeking the win , and he shown that boxing is all about levels , , you have to be good to be at the top of your level , any level , be it area , british commonwealth , european , or world ,,
Dave just shown where Johnny is , and the BIG DISCISION for them is are they willing for this to happen again , which if he steps up a level may well do , if he tries to step down a level , who's gonna pay to watch it ,, They have some thinking too do

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
He has a good education, money, life options - does he have to carry no? But he has ego, he wants it because that is why the immediate rematch happened because Fisher wanted it because he is a fighter.
There are a lot of people in his immediate circle who benefit from his continued success - his dad for one - not saying that is a bad thing but if and when the time comes he starts getting badly hurt they all get around the table for a family confab and make sensible decisions based on the young man's long term health - what is out there as regards prizes in professional boxing isn't worth him getting hurt and badly damaged in the long term.

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
It was a hell of a knockout. He’s a bit like Alen Babic in that he was a popular guy who we could all see was limited and would eventually find his level, he’s done well at taking advantage financially of the fanbase and the base that we’re waiting to see this happen, there’s a part of the British public that love seeing the fall from grace and some of them will have paid to see that Saturday night.
I can’t imagine the ticket sales will continue at the current rate. I’d be telling him to get out, there’s too many heavyweights out there who have had amateur careers who will just work him out even at Southern area level.

A change of trainers isn't going to achieve too much. He's found his level and will need a careful road back.

His matching will be far more important than his trainer.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 09:28 A change of trainers isn't going to achieve too much. He's found his level and will need a careful road back.
Also he can't go far wrong with Tibbs, who is going to suddenly improve him?
Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
I think a change of trainers is on the cards. Post fight, Fisher senior and junior were both criticising the tactics to go on the back foot and retreat. Tibbs would have been responsible for devising that strategy and I’m sure he will be made to pay the price for it.
Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
He's had a good run and made very good money for his ability and it's called prizefighting. He needs to get out now or possibly do one final cash out fight (preferably not against a puncher). Maybe Eddie Hall fancies a crack, I'm sure someone would buy that.
Heavyweight boxing is the toughest of sports and he doesn't have the punch resistance or defence or instincts under pressure to reach title level, especially when you look at who else there is domestically.

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
I'm not writing him off.
16 fights in, and a loss against a motivated Dave Allen who could beat either guy in the upcoming British title rematch.
How many sub Dave Allen opponents did Deyontay Wilder have before he stepped up to Audley Harrison? 30 cans?
If Johnny wants to fight on, why not .
He trains hard enough, that seems to be a massive advantage in this era, plus he has the funds to focus on his boxing, unlike a lot of guys at his level with full time jobs/wife & kids etc- that's a huge advantage.
Heck, even if he does go the gatekeeper route, there are millions to be made doing that, Chisora is going to leave a gap in the UK HW division that will need filling....

a chinny fighter who gets brutally ko'd and does poorly the first sign of adversity isnt cut out to be a good gatekeeper. chisora and fisher are nothing alike in that respect, chisora is a proper hard ass. fisher would just keep getting ko'd if he tried to play that roleKiwiRider wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 20:57 I'm not writing him off.

not writing him of totally, but the way fisher reacted in both allen fights tells me he's just not hard enough and never became a 'natural' in the ring. offensive minded fighters often fall the fastest when they first lose as well, i am not totally writing him off but i have doubts that he has the abilities to fall back on to stop this from happenign again when he faces decent opponents - at least ones with a bit of power and resistance
i would say, if his heart is still in it, if he's feeling good in training, give it another shot. maybe he could get in the mix vs english /low brit level guys selectively chosen for a lack of offensive power or durability. a bit like the wins nick webb got. but if he's splatted again in short order or vs his next live opponent then it deserves a serious reconsideration

Chisora had a solid chin though and proved himself capable of an upset. Fisher is a good few levels behind Chisora. Whyte is probably the better comparison to Chisora, a C-Level fighter who is good enough to beat most on his level but will lose when he steps up.KiwiRider wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 20:57 I'm not writing him off.

the Jake Paul/Tommy Fury route is probably best. Stop trying to be an actual proper boxer if you can't get past Dave Allen. Neither of those lads would probably get past him either. Maybe there are some fights he can have in that circuit. It would have been best to do it while undefeated though. But maybe getting starched makes some of those Misfits types more likely to fight him.

Dave Allen is a pretty high standard, could beat the current British champion - no real shame losing to him to be fair.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑20 May 2025, 00:23 the Jake Paul/Tommy Fury route is probably best. The only reason Allen isn't more successful is because he couldn't be arsed. That's a bit different from him lacking ability.

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
Good point. The tactics were stupid. There was no way Fisher was going to be able to sustain boxing on the back foot for 10 rounds against Allen.liamlion wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 17:29 I think a change of trainers is on the cards. It was completely against type.
My worry for Fisher is that once he’s hurt a little he doesn’t seem to know what to do and with his chin high in the air he’s another bad KO waiting to happen

He should pick up a few wins. Get a bit of confidence back. Improve his game.
Then either try to push into the celeb YouTube fights or try to win an area title....the British...

Re: Who will be Johnny Fisher's.....
Way too good for the Celeb scene…
Have a rest, then smash some cans/journymen, back to area/English levle for a bit, and see who has British… in a couple years time…
Should be a fairly simple formular for a man of his popularity (even if it has faded significantly)… but if he finds his way to a weak British title shot he will still have to be good enough to win it (which will be a big stylistic and ability question).
