Yeah I enjoyed it too. I look forward to seeing the Tournament progress.

The Glory Kickboxing Heavyweight Tournament continues the week before that as well. It's gonna be a sweet month to be a fight fan.

really enjoying this. but man these hws are messy. way weaker talent pool than the other divisions, which have done themselves proud so far with good quality and fighting spirit

havent seen anyone box well enough to have more than an outside shot of beating the uzbek olympic gold medalist lazizbek

These first couple of heavyweight rounds have kinda been a set up phase (the a sides fighting close to the level of opponent a mediocre prospect would fight normally).

I think this next round (definatly the one after) we will start to see a couple of kinda step up clashes.

Keen to see the likes of Lazbek, stone, lacz, young, rogava start facing each other. Kinda wish they went up to 8 rounders for that though.

With very little knowledge of any of them my guess is lazbek given his ams background, size and stance and nationality will be way too good.

stone i think is pretty hopeless vs those other guys. a bit of a slobby mess. i think he's gotten this far with a lucky draw

lacz is small and been dropped already, but looks very fit and with some power beyond his size. milun was only 1-0 but had a zillion am fights, with good results, and also won in the iba boxing, which is essentially pro rules. lacz also took down a 6'7 guy in his first round bout

rogava a big bruiser with a lotta am experience,, including the olympics

keaton gomes also a big bruiser, though i think not as good as rogava

lee is messy but strong. if one of the better schooled guys has chin or stamina issues he could find them out.

lazizbek miles the best boxer. defo the fave

kevin ramirez the argie had good hands, but at 200 pounds (he was 193 two fights ago) is really more of a cruiser, and i dont think good enough to win again unless matched with one of the weaker guys

i agree this next round we should get some better fights with some of these guys squaring off with each other.

Carlos Utria was the standout talent of fighters from this round. He's the guy at 140. I think he injured his hand. I hope it's not as severe as it could be.

Troy Nash looks like one of the top guys at Featherweight.

I think Mullojonov is the guy that's gonna take the Heavyweight Tournament though I personally like Ahmed Krnjic as well since I saw him fight in the Glory Kickboxing tourney and this tourney in the same month back in April.

Middleweight I think is the most competitive division. A few guys I could see winning there.

Have any of these guys snuck into any alphabet rankings or managed to creep up the boxrec rankings to a decent enough rank? If not, I imagine the finalists might do?

Phase 3 is scheduled to be held Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16. Not sure if the previously announced matchups are still in the works.

I dont think so. Some of those guys are pretty low level. Maybe finalists and semi finalists will get some recognition after collecting wins through tournament :box:

I don't think it's been very successful at all. Only like 5 of us on Boxrec even seem to give a sh*t that it's happening, and I would think the Boxrec Forum members represent a large chunk of Hardcore Boxing fans.

quarterfinals are set

but hw has a disappointment, as favourite , olympic gold medalsist Lazizbek Mullojonov, has withdrawn. that cuts a big chunk of quality from the heavys

I wonder what other oppertunity he got? Surly this tournament was a good chance for him to fight often and get a ranking…

Or is he back to the Olympics…

olympics still a while away, even the qualifying events not for another few years. maybe injury? whatever it is, he woulda won this handily imo. cant see any of the others becoming contenders. polish dude has a wack on him but is tiny and takes too much coming in, dante stone is a fat mess, devon young is okay but the type you'd have fed to richard torrez a couple fights ago ., not someone to go far in the division. gomes is a limited slugger

that said , it could make for some fun and well matched fights between them, which is good in itself

Phase 3 or Quarterfinals will be held August 13, according to the WBC. Here are the match ups:

Misael Cabrera Urías (Mexico) vs. Mujibillo Tursunov (Uzbekistan)
Carlos Utria (Colombia) vs. Spencer Wilcox (Canada)
Fiorenzo Priolo (Italy) vs. Ntethelelo Nkosi (South Africa)

Middleweight Division (160 lbs)

Dmytro Rybalko (Ukraine) vs. Derek Pomerleau (Canada)
Ephrem Bariko (France) vs. Carlos Sinisterra Palacios (Colombia)

Lacz is pretty good, if undersized.
I think that without Mullojonov (sp?) in there, Rogava will win the whole thing.
Pomerleau is quite good at mw. Carlos Utria was impressive at 140
I don't remember the featherweights enough to have an opinion.
So there are your picks, for who probably won't win the whole thing in those divisions, given my track record.

Semifinals this weekend. I was hoping for at least 8 rounders, but they are just 6 rounders
