Johnny Greaves book out (Bright Lights and Dark Corners)

100 fight journeyman Johnny Greaves (4-96) has a book out, I might have to purchase it, sounds an interesting read and getting good reviews. I was listening to him chatting to Tris Dixon today and he said in 100 fights he was never drug tested before or after a fight which shows how little testing seems to go on!

I'd imagine that's because the promoter (assuming it's them) wouldn't see it as worth the money to test a journeyman/opponent type fighter.

Yeah I get it, they can’t test everyone especially someone often coming in at the very last minute as a replacement.

Sounds like a good book, I enjoyed his slot in the Journeymen book.

As for drug testing at small hall level, I can remember going to a show years ago. Home favourite against opponent. Opponent pic on poster looked like Mr Blobby but when he emerged on fight night he was a ripped god. Opponent smashed the home boy in two rounds.

The transformation may have just been hard work (or gamesmanship with the poster, which would be genius if true) but the difference and the way the fight went did make me wonder at the time.

I wonder how much this goes on, probably not that uncommon if it's known they won't get tested.

Very occassionally, an undercard fighter will get tested if he is appearing on a bill with a title fight which has testing. That's how Dillian Whyte got done in a six rounder against Sandor Balogh (headliner was DeGale v Hadillah Mohoumadi for a European super middleweight title at the wonderful Glow in Bluewater).
