'Pitbull' Cruz, Lamont Roach Jnr put it all on the line in Dec. 6 showdown

Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and Lamont Roach Jnr are uniting for a December 6 Prime Video pay-per-view main event and filling some of the voids left by their currently “discombobulated” sport.

In a 140lbs title bout for Cruz’s interim WBC belt, WBA super-featherweight champion Roach makes his second consecutive move up in weight after fighting lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis to a March 1 draw that many believed Roach won.

The Premier Boxing Champions bout will take place at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, according to Cruz advisor Sean Gibbons, with a news conference scheduled there Wednesday. BS reported earlier Thursday that middleweight champions Erislandy Lara and Janibek Alimkhanuly are in talks to stage a three-belt unification in the night’s co-main event.

“There’s the potential for a new face of Mexican boxing to emerge, and ‘Pitbull’ Cruz has the opportunity on December 6 versus Lamont Roach to defend his belt and become that fighter … ,” Gibbons told BS exclusively Thursday. “This is the moment you fight for, and 2026 is the time for a new face to replace Canelo Alvarez as that face to step into the Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence weekends and shine.”

Alvarez was defeated last month on the independence weekend by new undisputed super-middleweight champion Terence Crawford, and it’s believed that when he recovers from an injury, he’ll fight next in Saudi Arabia for powerful boxing financier Turki Alalshikh.

Mexico’s popular former lightweight title challenger and ex-140lbs champion Cruz, 28-3-1 (18 KOs), captured the interim belt by defeating replacement opponent Omar Salcido by unanimous decision in July in Las Vegas.

Both he and Roach wanted another crack at WBA lightweight champion Davis – Cruz lost a 2021 unanimous decision to Davis – but Davis has instead taken a lucrative exhibition fight in Miami against cruiserweight contender and YouTuber Jake Paul.

“We hoped for Gervonta, but this is a better fight against the guy in Lamont Roach who the fans and everyone but the New York state boxing commission believe beat Gervonta Davis,” Gibbons said. “We know Roach wants to bang, and Cruz only knows one way to fight.

“You want fights where you know the fans will be fine spending their money for it, and this is absolutely a fight you’d be happy to pay for … San Antonio is getting a serious gift from boxing for Christmas.”

As many high-profile bouts have deserted the U.S. for the Middle East under Alalshikh, PBC is offering a pay-per-view card featuring Americans with Sebastian Fundora defending his WBC 154lbs belt against former welterweight champion Keith Thurman in Las Vegas.

And then it returns with Cruz versus Roach Jnr, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), who should’ve had a knockdown against Davis before that lapse by judge Steve Willis cost him on the scorecards.

The Washington D.C. product aimed for a summer rematch, but Davis was involved in legal trouble and then turned to Paul, after which he says he will retire. Instead of accepting a stay busy bout against Gabriel Flores, Roach lands another pay-per-view main event.

“Lamont’s not getting the rematch at this time, but he wants the big fights and this is the best one he can get,” said Garry Jonas, the CEO of ProBoxTV and BS whose company co-promotes Roach with the fighter’s father Lamont Roach Snr’s company, No Excuse Promotions.

“He looks forward to a fun, entertaining fight. On this kind of stage against ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, it’s the perfect opportunity to prove that what he accomplished [in March] is not a fluke and that he’s that guy.”

Told that Gibbons foresees Cruz achieving a victory that makes his fighter Alvarez’s successor as Mexico’s biggest-drawing fighter in the U.S., Jonas said, “We predict an outcome that’s similarly important for Lamont because Canelo got his ass whooped by Crawford, and ‘Pitbull’ will get his whooped by Roach.”

Roach is 30, while Cruz is 27.

“It’s all or nothing for these guys,” Gibbons said. “Yes, ‘Pitbull’ has had some good and bad nights, but as you look at how discombobulated boxing in the U.S. has become with American boxing needing these big fights and Canelo on his way out …this is also another big moment for ProBox and what it’s been doing.

“It’s a dangerous fight for both, so I just pushed all my chips to the center of the poker table with this one, and let’s see how they roll.”

Lamont Roach Jr. moving up to fight Isaac Cruz for 140-pound title

Reigning WBA junior lightweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. will move up to 140 pounds to face Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz for the interim WBC junior welterweight title on Dec. 6 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Premier Boxing Champions told ESPN.

The fight will headline a PBC pay-per-view on Prime Video.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) shifted directions after a proposed August rematch with Gervonta "Tank" Davis fell apart and his rival moved on to face Jake Paul in a November exhibition. Roach battled Davis to a controversial majority draw in March.

Rather than wait for the outcome of the Paul-Davis fight, Roach will look to become an interim titleholder at 140 pounds, making it his third consecutive fight competing in a different weight class.

Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) lost a narrow decision to Davis in December 2021. He has gone 6-1 since that fight, winning the vacant WBC junior welterweight title in his last outing when he outpointed Omar Salcido in July.

Fighting out of Mexico City, Cruz and his team see this fight as an opportunity to become the country's next big star, saying it's the "most important fight of his career."

"This is the biggest moment Isaac Cruz has had in his career," Sean Gibbons, Cruz's manager, told ESPN. "This is even bigger than the first 'Tank' fight because Mexico is looking for a new face of boxing after Canelo lost to Crawford. They are looking for a world champion and a new star to fight on Mexican Independence Day and Cinco De Mayo weekends.

"We are hoping that this fight will launch Cruz into that conversation."

Lamont Roach Confident He Can KO Isaac Cruz, Promises Career-Defining Beating

Lamont Roach expects to “dominate” Isaac Cruz in a way the rugged Mexican has never experienced.

Roach sees so many defensive deficiencies in the durable Cruz that the WBA 130-pound champion is even confident he can become the first fighter to knock out the hard-hitting “Pitbull.” Cruz’s chin has been one of his greatest strengths, but that didn’t inhibit Roach during an interview with Max Kellerman, Mike Coppinger, Ryan Garcia and LeSean McCoy during the most recent episode of “Inside The Ring.”

“If I don’t [knock him out],” Roach said, “I promise you it’s gonna be the worst he ever got beat – ever, worst.”

Cruz will defend his WBC super lightweight title against Roach on December 6 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, where they will attend a press conference Wednesday afternoon. Roach, 30, has moved up five pounds for a second straight bout because Gervonta Davis reneged on their agreement for an immediate rematch that was supposed to take place August 16 in Las Vegas.

The Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view main event between Cruz (28-3-1, 17 KOs) and Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) will match the opponents who gave Davis the two most troublesome bouts of his 12-year pro career.

Cruz, 27, pushed Baltimore’s Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), but he lost a 12-round unanimous decision in December 2021 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Roach, who moved up from 130 pounds to 135, and Davis fought to a controversial majority draw March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Mexico City’s Cruz has lost on points to Davis, Jose Valenzuela and countryman Luis Montano Alvarez. Valenzuela (14-3, 9 KOs) beat Cruz by split decision in their fight for the WBA 140-pound title 14 months ago in Los Angeles and Alvarez (then 10-5) upset him by unanimous decision in Cruz’s sixth professional fight 9½ years ago in Mexico City.

Roach realizes that overcoming Cruz won’t be easy. The Upper Marlboro, Maryland resident is convinced, however, that he has a versatile style suited to neutralize Cruz’s persistent pressure and sustainable power.

“The thing that he does well is punch hard for all 12 rounds,” Roach said. “That’s about it. A lotta people don’t know that he has a good sense of timing. … We study him, so like he has a good sense of timing that probably some people don’t pick up on until they probably either get hit with one of those shots. And by the time you get hit with one of those shots it’s a little too late. But that’s what he does well. And he does well with, you know, keeping like a straight face. You know, he gasses out early, but he does keep his like same game face, though, for sure.”

The Ring ranks Roach fourth among its junior lightweight contenders for a title that is vacant. Cruz isn’t rated in The Ring’s top 10 at junior welterweight, despite that he owns an interim championship.

Roach opened as more than a 2-1 favorite according to FanDuel.

Isaac Cruz vows to show Lamont Roach what he showed Rolly Romero

Lamont Roach has vowed to bring “old-school boxing back” when he takes on Issac “Pitbull” Cruz at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on December 6.

Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), shocked many when he fought the revered Gervonta Davis to a draw in a lightweight title fight in March. Davis dillydallied when it came to granting Roach a rematch and will instead embark on a pantomime-style adventure when he clashes with Jake Paul in an exhibition next month.

Roach, meanwhile, preferred to stick to the realms of real boxing and will rise in weight again for the clash with Cruz, set for 12 rounds at junior welterweight with the Mexican’s WBC interim trinket at stake

If the belt is somewhat spurious, Cruz is the real deal. An established player in the 140lbs sweepstakes, one who last year halted Rolly Romero in eight rounds, the 27-year-old is excited to introduce Roach to his playground. “We’re definitely gonna give him an unfriendly welcome to the 140-pound division,” Cruz said. “I’m experienced in this division, but I’m not overlooking him just because he’s moving up in weight. I’m not gonna underestimate what he can do at this weight class... I'm gonna show him the way I showed Rolly.

“I know I can knock him out. He’s human and the punches hurt him just like anyone else. We’re gonna make sure that we accomplish that objective when the time comes.

“We know Roach is a great fighter who likes to take on challenges just like we do. He’s someone who can help me provide a great fight for the fans.”

The obvious respect was reciprocated. Roach explained that Cruz, 28-3-1 (18 KOs), had long been on his radar and the fight, which will be over 12 rounds, is the kind he needs to cement his reputation as “one of the best fighters in the world."

“Cruz is a hell of a fighter,” Roach said. “He’s explosive and he’s the kind of guy the fans love to see. I’m definitely a great dance partner to complement his style. Just be tuned in. It’s gonna be what you guys expect. I’m gonna win and it’s gonna be a great show.

"I love facing his style, because it plays right into my strengths. It’s gonna show on December 6. All I have to do is do what I know how to do and I’ll be victorious for sure.

"I’m gonna be strong as hell. I have less weight to cut and more room to work with. I’m in my physical prime right now and moving up in weight is another notch for me.

"I told everyone what I’m here to do. I want to bring old-school boxing back. Me accepting this fight with Cruz proves that I’m like that. I’m definitely gonna give you guys a banger.”

O'SHAQUIE FOSTER-STEPHEN FULTON RESCHEDULED AGAIN, LANDS ON DEC. 6 UNDERCARD

The O'Shaquie Foster-Stephen Fulton WBC junior lightweight title fight is being rescheduled for Dec. 6 in San Antonio, sources told The Ring.

This is the third different date for the snake-bitten 130-pound title fight. Foster was set to defend his title against Fulton on Aug. 16 in Las Vegas on the undercard of a proposed Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach rematch.

When the Davis-Roach bout was scrapped, Foster-Fulton was shifted to the Oct. 25 undercard of Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman in Las Vegas. This past week, Fundora suffered a hand injury that postponed the bout.

Now, Foster and Fulton will meet Dec. 6 in San Antonio as part of a stacked PBC on Prime Video PPV undercard topped by Isaac Cruz-Lamont Roach.

The matchup is one of two bouts featuring boxers promoted by Top Rank vs. those aligned with PBC, with Janibek Alimkhanuly-Erislandy Lara the other.

Foster, 32, is The Ring’s No. 1 boxer at 130 pounds. He regained his title in November when he outpointed Robson Conceicao in a rematch.

Houston’s Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) won the title from Rey Vargas and made two successful defenses before defeat by Conceicao.

Philadelphia’s Fulton is The Ring’s No. 4 featherweight. He’s the WBC champion at 126 pounds, a title Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) won in February with a convincing decision win over Brandon Figueroa during their rematch.

The 31-year-old will look to become a three-division champion with victory. His lone professional defeat came in July 2023 when he was knocked out by Naoya Inoue in a two-belt title unification bout in Tokyo.

JANIBEK ALIMKHANULY, ERISLANDY LARA AGREE DEC. 6 MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE UNIFICATION

Janibek Alimkhanuly and Erislandy Lara have agreed to a middleweight title unification Dec. 6 in San Antonio, sources told The Ring.

Alimkhanuly will put his IBF and WBO titles on the line while Lara risks his WBA belt. The 160-pound bout will take place on the undercard portion of a PBC show headlined by Isaac Cruz-Lamont Roach on Prime Video PPV.

Kazakhstan’s Alimkhanuly is The Ring’s No. 1 middleweight while Lara was rated No. 3 before dropping out of the rankings for inactivity last month.

Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round TKO of Anauel Ngamissengue in a homecoming title defense in April. Alimkhanuly, 32, has been a titleholder since 2022 but Lara will represent a sizable jump in competition.

Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) is boxing’s oldest champion at 42. The Cuban stopped Danny Garcia last September in his most-recent fight - his fourth consecutive win inside the distance.

WBC beltholder Carlos Adames, who was in talks to fight Alimkhanuly earlier this year, holds the other title at 160 pounds.

Lamont Roach Jnr stepping up – in weight and talent

For those still not sold on the idea that Lamont Roach Jnr has turned a significant corner and become a bona fide pound-for-pound contender, he says just keep watching.

The Washington D.C. product is coming off a March 1 draw against two-division titlist Gervonta “Tank” Davis in Brooklyn that most thought he won. Nevertheless, the even verdict provided the first blemish on Davis’ record as Roach is now bound for a second consecutive pay-per-view main event.

The reigning WBA 130lbs titlist – who challenged for Davis’ 135lbs belt – will once again move up in weight for his next fight. Roach will test the 140lbs waters when he meets WBC interim 140lbs titlist Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz 28-3-1 (18 KOs) in a December 6 PBC PPV headliner from Frost Bank Center, home to the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

“Some people might think he’s too rough and rugged for me, but they’re going to be in for a surprise,” Roach 25-1-2 (10 KOs) told Boxing Scene on Tuesday. “I’m pretty strong, pretty mean. I got the tenacity of a killer in the ring. I’m going to be able to unleash that. I have what it takes to give ‘Pitbull’ the beating he hasn’t had yet. For sure.”

While Roach’s knockout ratio may not indicate such an outcome, consider what the WBA 130lbs titleholder accomplished by delivering a ninth-round power punch on Davis that left him on a knee in what should’ve been ruled a knockdown by referee Steve Wilkes.

Because it wasn’t – even as the reeling Davis visited his corner and was treated by a towel wipe – two scorecards came in 114-114, depriving Roach of the victory he worked for.

“To personally crown myself the winner, to know that I’m supposed to be the champion in a new weight class, and then not be, that definitely takes a toll,” Roach said. “But time goes on. I can’t get it back, so take the punches and roll on with it. Boxing has been like this for a long time. There’s not much we can do about it except head on with the [upward] trajectory of that to the next fight.”

Roach and Davis were supposed to stage an August rematch, but Davis was ensnared in legal trouble. There were brief talks of rescheduling the event, but it was scrapped altogether when Davis opted to take a lucrative November 14 exhibition fight against social media influencer and aspiring cruiserweight contender Jake Paul.

Asked if he believes he’ll ever meet Davis in a rematch, Roach said, “No, I don’t think so.”

Why?

“Because of who he is as a person, the possible results that can happen – a similar outcome. I don’t think he wants [another] stain on his record,” Roach said.

Whatever Davis opts to do with his career in 2026 is on him.

Roach assesses that by accomplishing what he did in Brooklyn and then affirming that effort with an impressive showing against Mexico City’s Cruz – a former WBA 140lbs titlist - he’ll be firmly entrenched among the elite circle of fighters at 135 and 140.

That list includes WBC 13lbs titlist Shakur Stevenson, current contender Abdullah Mason and 140lbs champions Teofimo Lopez (lineal and WBO) and Richardson Hitchins (IBF).

Asked if he’s done fighting as a super-featherweight, Roach said, “I’m not going to say, but more than likely. It’s going to take a lot to get me to 130. It’s not that I can’t make the weight. It’s what’s out there for me at lightweight and 140.

“We’ve got some plans. I hope you guys will all be along for the ride because it’s going to look real good for boxing, I’ll tell you that.”

Headlining the second consecutive pay-per-view (Prime Video, PPV.COM) gives Roach the exposure to elevate toward boxing’s A-list, but as he goes about his business in training, he knows it doesn’t happen unless he defeats Cruz, who also gave Davis fits when they met four years ago.

In 2019, Roach, 30, lost a unanimous decision to Jamel Herring in a bout for the WBO 130lbs title.

The loss was crushing to Roach, but it provided a powerful spark to continue his development and make him into the world champion he envisioned becoming.

He answered with knockout victories and two wide decision triumphs before decking Hector Luis Garcia in the 12th round in late 2023 to become world champion by split decision.

“It’s testament to how hard I work, putting myself to the test of what I want to accomplish. I took a slight dip in my career with the loss to Jamel Herring. It became a turning point. Once I turned over a new leaf, it was all she wrote,” Roach explained.

He said that beyond doubling down on sharpening his boxing intricacies and adding more strength, he leaned into “how I was raised and the way I am as a person. I’ve always been a competitor since I was a kid. Always wanted to win. Always wanted to be the best in whatever sport. You can tell from my accomplishments from the amateurs to now. I’m always at the top of the crop. Being complacent isn’t me. I’m always reaching for new heights, new goals and trying my best to achieve them.”

The high stakes of the Davis bout and this upcoming one are obviously present, but the motivation is internal.

“I push myself. There’s a lot of people who doubt and don’t see you as you see yourself,” Roach said. “That’s one of the things that gives me a kick, that definitely puts a chip on my shoulder and makes me run a little harder – to prove to myself that I’m the best. I want to make sure I set out to be who I say I’m going to be.

“I think about [what’s next], but not too much because defeating ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is my main objective. That’s the thing I think about the most, the thing I’m working very hard for so I can be able to attain this type of leverage I want for my boxing career.”

Roach knows enough about boxing history to know the canvas has been littered by fighters who can step up on one big night to produce a shocking outcome, and then diminish into the background.

It consumes him to sustain success, to become “top of the crop” amid his generation.

“Just to say that, it gives me chills. That’s exactly what I’m in it for. I want to be known as one of the greats. I have the skills, the will and all the intangibles to do so. As long as I trust my team and train hard and believe in God, I can do whatever I want to,” he said.

He’ll be less than three months removed from Terence Crawford’s impressive rise up two weight classes to defeat undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in September when Roach moves up to 140lbs.

“Weight classes definitely matter – nine times out of 10, the great big man beats the great little man,” he said. “But Terence Crawford was the great little man who won. I want to be like that. I want to be the anomaly. Whether it be ‘Pitbull,’ or whatever fight is made when I’m smaller, I’ll step up to be the man like Terence Crawford.”

O'Shaquie Foster, Stephen Fulton finalize terms, set for Dec. 6

O’Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton are back on the schedule.

A third fight date has been assigned to the attractive matchup, which is officially back in play for December 6. BS has confirmed that their 12-round clash for Foster’s WBC 130lbs title will land on the December 6 Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Prime Video Pay-Per-View event from Frost Bank Arena, home to the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

ESPN’s Andreas Hale was the first to report that a deal was reached this week.

The new date – headlined by the Isaac Cruz-Lamont Roach WBC 140lbs title fight - provides a home state title defense for Foster, 23-3 (12 KOs), a two-time titleholder from the greater Houston arena. The bout will be his first since he regained the WBC 130lbs belt from Robson Conceicao last November 2 in Verona, New York.

Philadelphia’s Fulton, 23-1 (8 KOs) will move up in weight, as he aims to become a three-division titleholder.

The bout was originally due to land on the targeted August 16 PBC on Prime Video PPV intended to have been headlined by the Gervonta “Tank” Davis-Lamont Roach Jnr rematch. However, Davis declined to move forward with the fight and the event as a whole was canceled.

Foster-Fulton then landed as the co-feature to the previously scheduled Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman WBC 154lbs title fight. The event was planned for October 25 in Las Vegas, but scrapped earlier this month after Fundora was forced to withdrew due to a reported training camp injury.

Foster will now go 13 months between fights, after a three-fight 2024 campaign.

The rate of activity last year came with its pitfalls, however. Foster suffered a highly questionable split decision defeat to Brazil’s Conceciao last July 6 in Newark, New Jersey. It ended his first WBC title reign, 17 months after his February 2023 victory over then-unbeaten Rey Vargas, which also took place in San Antonio.

Philadelphia’s Fulton became a two-division titlist with arguably his most impressive to date. He claimed a clear unanimous decision over Brandon Figueroa to win the WBC 126lbs belt on the February 1 PBC on PPV show from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It marked Fulton’s second straight win, both which came at featherweight after a July 2023 knockout loss to Naoya Inoue to end his unified WBC/WBO junior featherweight title reign in Tokyo, Japan.

The win was also a repeat feat for Fulton, and in more dominant fashion than their first meeting. A November 2021 WBC/WBO unification bout between unbeaten 122lbs titlists saw Fulton prevail via majority decision in their Fight of the Year contender.

Jesus Ramos vs Shane Mosley Jr completes Cruz vs Roach PPV

PBC’s December 6th pay-per-view lineup is officially complete

Fresh off the reveal that O’Shaquie Foster vs Stephen Fulton would land on PBC’s December 6th Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz vs Lamont Roach Jr undercard in San Antonio, Haymon and co. have revealed the full lineup, which includes Janibek Alimkhanuly’s three-belt middleweight unification against Erislandy Lara and another middleweight tussle pitting Jesus Ramos against Shane Mosley Jr.

Like Foster vs Fulton, this is another refugee from their ill-fated October 25th Sebastian Fundora vs Keith Thurman show. A welcome one, too; it’s a solid matchup.

“Mono” Ramos (23-1, 19 KO) built a head of steam with a serious of dominant victories in his rise through the super welterweight ranks, but suffered a highly controversial decision loss to Erickson Lubin on the cusp of title contention. He’s spent the subsequent two years largely spinning his wheels, beating down the overmatched Johan Gonzalez, Jeison Rosario, and most recently Guido Schramm in March.

Mosley (22-4, 14 KO) took a number of early-career losses, including a high-profile rout from Brandon Adams on the Contender finale, then fell short against Jason Quigley just when he seemed to have found his footing. To his credit, he just kept plugging away, capping off a five-fight winning streak with a decision over Daniel Jacobs in July of last year.

This marks his first fight since.

Frank Martin will return for the first time since his June 2024 knockout defeat to Gervonta “Tank” Davis, taking on Rances Barthelemy in a 10-round junior welterweight bout.

Martin vs. Barthelemy will head up a three-fight show on Amazon’s Prime Video on December 6, streaming for free ahead of that evening’s pay-per-view event topped by Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz against Lamont Roach at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The card will also feature undefeated Isaac Lucero dueling Roberto Valenzuela Jnr in a 10-rounder at 154lbs. In the show’s opener, unbeaten junior lightweight Luis Nunez will meet Hector Sosa in a fight set for 10 rounds.

The broadcast is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m Eastern Time.

Martin, 18-1 (12 KOs), is moving up to 140lbs following his eighth-round KO loss to Davis at lightweight, during which he was competitive early but forced into an increasingly desperate retreat as the rounds progressed. Prior to his first loss, Martin beat Artem Harutyunyan and Michel Rivera over the distance, dropping them both along the way.

“I’m excited to be back after people tried to bash me for taking one loss,” said Martin in a press release. “I took it as a lesson learned, and I’m back mentally and physically at the top of my game. Rances is gonna have to deal with everything I went through, and he’s gonna feel it on every punch. I’m back and I’m pissed off and dangerous.”

Barthelemy, 30-3-1 (15 KOs), hasn’t fought since April 2024 and has lost two of his last three, falling by controversial stoppage to Gary Antuanne Russell in July 2022 and dropping a unanimous decision to Jose Ramirez in his last bout.

“December 6 is the night I remind everyone who Rances Barthelemy is,” said Barthelemy in the press release. “Frank Martin is a talented fighter, but I’ve been in deep waters before, and experience counts when the lights are brightest. I’m coming with new hunger, sharper focus, and the fire of a man chasing one more world title run. Fans tuning in are going to see me determined to leave everything in the ring. I’m not here to survive; I’m here to dominate and make sure my name is back on everyone’s radar.”

Lucero, 17-0 (13 KOs), last scored a KO in May over fellow unbeaten Omar Valenzuela. His bout with a second straight Valenzuela was initially scheduled for the undercard of Sebastian Fundora vs. Keith Thurman but was moved after Fundora’s injury led to that show’s cancellation.

“Roberto Valenzuela Jnr is a tough veteran who’s faced some of the division’s best, and he’s coming into the ring on a winning streak, but this is my time and I’m gonna show why on December 6,” said Lucero. “I’m very grateful to my team for this opportunity. My trainer Bob Santos will have me ready to showcase my skills and put on a great show when the bell rings.”

Valenzuela Jnr, 31-5 (29 KOs) has won his last five fights, all inside the distance. Prior to that, Xander Zayas stopped him in five rounds.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity,” said Valenzuela. “My opponent is a very strong and skilled boxer, but I’m 100% ready to leave San Antonio victorious. With both of our styles, I’m sure that we’re going to give the fans a fight that all of Mexico and the rest of the world will be talking about for many years.”

Lamont Roach Motivated To Prove Display Against Gervonta Davis 'Ain't No Fluke'

Lamont Roach was angry after his infamous majority draw with Gervonta Davis.

Roach knew what would’ve been a life-changing win was taken from him. The WBA junior lightweight champion firmly felt he did enough to defeat Davis in their 12-round pay-per-view match March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Steve Willis’ failure to count an obvious knockdown against Davis early in the ninth round made matters even more frustrating for Roach. His appeal was denied by the New York State Athletic Commission as well, which discouraged Roach because no one in positions of authority appeared willing to correct mistakes that cost him millions of dollars.

Davis’ decision to exercise his contractual right to an immediate rematch temporarily encouraged Roach. He at least felt then that he’d have an opportunity to defeat Davis more decisively in another high-profile fight generating a lot of attention.

Roach’s second shot at Davis’ WBA lightweight crown was postponed twice before Roach’s rival eventually opted to face Jake Paul in a cruiserweight exhibition. Paul-Davis, which Netflix is scheduled to stream November 14 from Kaseya Center in Miami, has since been jeopardized by Davis’ involvement in another alleged domestic violence incident with an ex-girlfriend.

Roach, 30, essentially gave up on facing Davis again. He is thankful, though, that he’ll headline a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view card December 6, when he’ll battle WBC interim junior welterweight champ Isaac Cruz at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

“In the beginning it was tough, but you know, it’s life,” Roach told The Ring regarding the Davis disappointment. “And it’s boxing. Boxing has been a shaky sport for a long time. You know, I just happened to be on the short end of the stick this time. You know, it happens to some greats. So, once you just settle into reality and know [the rematch is] probably not coming back around, you get over it.

“I have bigger and better things to do, so I’m not just gonna sit here and sulk over what should’ve been, even though it should’ve been. It is what it is. Now I just have to go out and prove myself again and again and again. This ain’t no fluke, and the way Imma prove it is Imma be around for a long time.”

The 12-round, 140-pound bout between Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs), of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Mexico City’s Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) will match the two opponents who’ve given Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) his most difficult fights. Cruz lost a closely contested, 12-round unanimous decision to the left-handed knockout artist from Baltimore in December 2021 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

DraftKings lists Roach as more than a 2-1 favorite versus Cruz in the 12-round main event of a four-fight pay-per-view show Amazon’s Prime Video will distribute.

Mexican Star and former world champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz plans to leave no doubt in his dominance when he faces reigning WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach in the main event of a PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video taking place Saturday, December 6 from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. “Winning is the only option on December 6,” said Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs). “Whether it’s by knockout or it goes to the judges, it must be decisive. I know that there’s no margin for error. We must prevail and we will do one round at a time…Everyone on my team is focused on the same goal, and that’s winning no matter what it costs.”

The 27-year-old Cruz will be opposed by the fast-rising Roach, who jumped up to the upper echelon of the sport earlier this year in giving three-division world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis the toughest test of his career before leaving the ring with a much-discussed draw.

While Cruz has his own history with Davis, and with much being made about the winner of this fight rematching Davis in the future, Cruz is only focused on the opponent who’ll be in his way on December 6.

“We know we have a great opponent in front of us and we know that we can’t underestimate his boxing ability,” said Cruz. “We’re studying all of his past fights and making sure we know all the good and the bad. We’re getting stronger every day and that just makes me more and more confident that we’ll have our hand raised on December 6.”

The Mexico City-native Cruz has seen his popularity continue to rise in recent years, with the passionate Mexican fanbase showing their support for Cruz’s crowd-pleasing style and willingness to face the best. Cruz’s last fight in San Antonio came in 2020 as he delivered his breakout performance by knocking out Diego Magdaleno in round one in front of the city’s rabid boxing-loving population. Having won a world title and competed in high profile bouts since then, Cruz hopes to give an even bigger audience another memorable performance.

“There are going to be a lot of Mexican fans in San Antonio,” said Cruz. “Coming back to an area where you can see and feel the support of your people, even though you’re far from home, is a great feeling. While Cruz steps into the ring for the main event, the entire four-fight pay-per-view card is filled with high-stakes, 50-50 matchups that should leave fans on the edge of their seat throughout the night. With an opening in the sport for who will be the next Mexican superstar to take the mantle from Canelo Alvarez, Cruz knows that his name is often one of the first brought up. While he insists on taking his career one fight at a time, the idea of stepping into that historic position is something that motivates him every day leading up to December 6.
