My coach keeps complaining about it. But I am that guy. For me it's just the natural stance. Throwing the jab from philly stance is the best!

very few people are good enough to use it effectively vs decent opponents. even some elite pros have looked clueless trying it.

The common mentality seems to be that sparring in a philly stance is showboating. For me it's not that at all, just feels so much more natural.

By the way for you are there any manners you face from your sparring partners that you hate? Like for me I've always hated the guy who hits me with a good shot and then pauses like "I'm sorry, was that too much"? And likewise if I hit my opponent with a good shot and they be like "nice, good punch". I know it's a good punch, you don't need to stop the action because of it.

Do you get hit a lot using that stance? Because if so the Coach may not be concerned with showboating so much as being ineffective.JackSprocket wrote: ↑15 Oct 2025, 04:24 The common mentality seems to be that sparring in a philly stance is showboating. There's been World Champions who have used that style and basically just lost rounds because of it. Adrien Broner being the primary example that comes to mind.
