Hopkins v Tito 2

Post by jab »

I think in a rematch Tito has a good chance to win. Hopkins is getting old and battle worn. He doesnt have too many bigfights left in him. If they fight again 6 month from now, I think Tito has a slight edge over Hopkins.
Most likely a closely won UD by Tito.

I think Tito retired because he did not think he could beat Hopkins 3 years ago. He also returned because he feels that Hopkins is close to retirement and has slipped enough since they last fought and he now has a realistic chance to win a rematch.

Any comments or rebuttals?

Depends which Hopkins turns up I guess.

A very well prepared and 'rejuvinated' Hopkins with fire in his belly would win again.

An old looking Hopkins would struggle.

hopkins hopkins hopkins.

we have seen tima and again when the big paydays are round the corner Nard doesnt risk anythi8ng, then when its performance time.

wham. night night tito.

some of you guys have short memories, this talk comes round everytime BNard has a bigger fight. In which he has NEVER looked like being in trouble.

True but he's getting on a bit and he does seem a step slower. I think I'd fancy Trinidad in a return, would be a lot closer either way I don't think Hopkins can win so emphatically this time.

I agree 100%...... its a reverse scenario of Iron Mike, Mike has done his training properly this time, Mike is gonna be like the old Tyson..... Nard gets it the other way round...

What has Trinidad shown to give the indication that he can do a number on Hopkins? He'd have to beat Wright in way which took Wright's movement away (ie not just bang him out - he won't do that to Hopkins) before I'd give a rematch a chance of being any different from the one-sided undressing he got last time.

Trinidad advocates who were touting his win over Mayorga as proof he can take Hopkins are utterly delusional

I dont think anyone is saying it will be a walkover job for Trinidad. One things for sure, by the time they fight Hopkins will be 4 years older, and Trinidad cant fight as naively as he did last time just plodding forward all night eating leather. That should bring it closer. Whether thats close enough for Trinidad to win only time will tell!

I think Wright is tailor made for Trinidad, he's not a great mover at all though so will be in front of Trinidad. He does have a good defence but I think Tito will break him down for a clear points win.

Tito may be overhyped, but he's a terrific fighter nontheless, offensively, one of the best in the welterweights. I think he will have grown into the division, and Winky isn't the best mover. Remember that Winky had a lot of problems with Vargas, whether or not you think Winky won that fight, Vargas ran him bloody close. Tito is a better fighter than Vargas, and has serious middleweight power.

I think Winky is tough and technically good, but he's not that quick, and not that mobile. I think Trinidad is rejuvenated after his break. My only concern is that he hasn't fought anyone challenging since his comeback, but I think tito is the kind of fighter who snaps back into shape quickly.

Tito by late KO in a hard fight.

It should in theory be a close fight.... vargas and Tito was close, winky and vargas was close...

I still think Winky will outbox trinidad... although the odds on a tito KO have fallen dramatically...

I also think that at middleweight, Tito's punchpower is pretty exceptional. Hopkins was wise not to let himself get tagged flush often, he showed a lot of respect for Tito's power. Winky doesn't really have a power punch, he pushes his shots more than snaps them, and although I could see him stopping Tito late, he would have to thoroughly dominate the fight.

It's an intriguing fight, the danger is that Tito's performance against Mayorga, a limited and crude welterweight slugger tailor made for Tito, has flattered him exceptionally.

Hopkins, but it will be closer. Trinidad has improved but none of that matters if he doesn't get past Wright...

J is spot on with how to assess Hopkins.

If Trinidad destroys Wright and the rematch happens I'm turning up to it in a raincoat. I think there's a chance (not that big a one) that Hopkins may have enough left to pull out one last super performance. It would be one of those moments in life where you just sit back in silence and witness.

I thought the first fight was oneof the most one sided beatings and dominations in recent middleweight championship memory.

Hopkins impressed me then a lot. Trinidad had the wrong strategy and couldnt adapt in the ring. His continuos and monotous frontal rushes were not giving any results yet he persisted in applying them to the end.
Ok, he showed heart and endurance, but not much flexibility in thinking or style.

But since then, 4 years have passed. Trinidad rested his body, learned a lot. (must have been over that tape hundreds of times in this time), while Hopkins got older, more battle weary, closer to retirement.
He run quite a bit in the Estman fight and dint exchange much. He used his legs more than he used to. Possibly a sign of weakening or getting old. (though not necessarily; he used skills and boxing mastery and it was just as effective)
But he didnt seem his menacing old self all the same in his last fight.

A rematch 6 months from now would be certainly a lot more competitive than the first fight. Perhaps a 1-2 round UD win by Tito is a possibility.
The point is that if a rematch is fought, the more time passes until it does happen, the better Titos chances would be. (its called the age/youth advantage :TU: )
All these analyses would change if they perform vastly diffrent in their next fight. (not with eact other, but with the guys they already signed) We will have to see if Hopkins slips or holds steady in quality level.

Tito is an accident waiting to happen.

Hopkins would stop him again, only another beating would damage Tito's health.

In what regard exactly? What on earth does that mean? Tito has taken 1 beating in his entire career, and even that was hardly a savaging, so quite why his health is in danger is beyond me.

I think Tito can take this rematch : Hopkins is now getting a bit old although he is still in great shape...Tito is a smart fighter with tremendous power, he will know what not to do this time and could rally in the second half of the fight...
in their 1st fight Tito just came forward trying to land big shots to the body, trying to KO hopkins on 1 punch...if he can take his time, box on fast combos he can really hurt Hopkins...Oscar gave Hopkins trouble in the 1st part of the fight but just didnt have the power and size to hurt him consistently and faded in the later rounds...Tito has great stamina and hits super hard until the end...

What on earth are you on about, at NO POINT did Oscar give Hopkins any trouble, he hardly laid a fornicating glove on him, and was forced to chase Hopkins around the ring to no avail getting jabbed. Once Hopkins turned up the heat, it was clear Oscar was heading for a one sided beating, and he knew it.

funny how Hopkins is 4 years older and Tito isnt????

Tito took two years off doing fornicate all and blowing up to 14 stone...... he has had one fight against a punch bag...... in that time Hopkins has had several "easy fights" kept sharp and close to his weight....

This could well be a moot point as I quite fancy Taylors chances against Hopkins.

i would give Taylor more chance of beating Hopkins than Tito!!!

imagine Taylor and Winky win... thats a £500,000 fight... tito v hopkins rematch must be a £4,000,000 fight ;-)
