Canelo seeks rematch with Crawford

Post by 2128778 »

“Canelo told @losprota that he will seek a rematch against Terence Crawford for 2026,” said Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN Knockout about Canelo Alvarez wanting to avenge his loss to Terence Crawford.

For a while, it looked like Canelo won't be looking to rematch Crawford (just as was the case with Bivol).

But apparently, after completing elbow surgery and taking some time off, Canelo now plans to avenge the loss next year.

If/when they fight again in 2026, how do you expect their rematch to go?

Pointless fight. Crawford will probably accept for the money but it wasn't s close fight and I don't think many people see the rematch going any different. There are other new opponents that Canelo could target instead.

Think most genuine boxing fans would rather see Canelo Vs the likes of Beterbiev, Sheeraz, Adames, Jermall, Benavidez, Alimkhanuly. Maybe even Eubank or Benn if Canelo wants to get a KO on his record for the first time in a while.

And most genuine boxing fans would rather seen Crawford Vs middleweights and down to welterweight opponents. The likes of of Benn, Jermall, Alimkhanuly, McKenna, Ammo, Boots, Ortiz, Zayas, Fundora.

Those types of opponents.

I’d rather craw vs boots or Ortiz or Bivol…

I’d rather canelo vs sharaz or big Charlo.

But I think if canelo wants it and craw wants the cash this is a fine rematch. It was a mega fight befor, it might not still be a mega fight but it’s still a super fight..

Agree - a pointless rematch. The first bout wasn't a complete whitewash for Crawford like many seem to think, but nor was it one where a round here or a round there could have swung the decision. Bud was in control, and you never got the sense that Canelo could turn it around. Frankly, I just don't see Alvarez doing anything appreciably different to change the outcome of a second fight.

I don't want to see a rematch. Canelo is too slow-footed and will be even slower at a year older.

I'd sooner see Crawford fight Janibek, or maybe Ennis.

It was a competitive fight, but it was also just a tedious boxing match. Not the kinda thing that would inspire you to want to see it again.

I'd rather see both of them fight others. A rematch wouldn't be horrible, but I don't think it would draw anywhere near the level of interest the 1st bout had.

Even a rematch of a great fight usually doesn't have the same interest as the initial matchup does in most cases.

I didn't think it was a close fight but 2 judges did(115-113) and that's what counts. If I'm Canelo I'm thinking about those cards and how would I have done if I wasn't injured.

Nor do I think it was a close fight, but we've seen it a disproportionate number of times where Alvarez gets every benefit of doubt - and then some - from the judges. The best example is probably the Bivol fight where through 10 rounds the judges had it 5-5, which was absolutely ludicrous. At most, and I think I'm being charitable, you could have given Alvarez two rounds. At least in that instance, the right boxer (Bivol) won the fight, which hasn't always been the case.
