Is it possible to make a big fight or event in Africa?

Post by Cent0089 »

Just watched Ajagba vs Bakole again. Not exactly a barn burner, but was wondering if you make a rematch in some stadium in Kinshasa, would it be succes? or maybe only few rich fans will show up there :maybe:

They're definitely working towards it..

They've tested the waters a little last year

Yes, but they have to treat it with respect. They can't chuck Okolie against an African on as the headliner and expect it to be a huge glamorous event that everyone is talking about and wants to go to. Bakole and Ajagba are two examples but there are other top 10 ranked Africans across divisions that would get much more attention as well as other opponents that they could face.

Also, the benefit with a stadium over an arena is that you can have a much wider range of ticket prices. In Africa with such a wealth disparity, you can fill a small stadium if you want to but the tickets have to be priced appropriately.

tbh its a bit silly how some promoters act like you can stick any black brtiish or american dude in africa, say he has some family from whatever country its in, then get some big loving crowd turning out. we are not living in the halycon days of ali, foreman, frazier....where boxing is massive globally, has the biggest boxing star ever competing, and can draw a mega crowd wherever they go

now i have seen crazy atmospheres and packed venues (admittedly hardly stadiums) at fights between rando africans that can hardly box, but they had strong local connections and lived around the area. african countries are very diverse, with ties that break down much more narrowly than national level or even the more distant 'oh my gramps was from nigeria too' level. importing some british / american black guy like every african gonna think of him as some home town star is :maybe:

i think the overall popularity of boxing in whatever country it is would matter most, where is boxing biggest in africa?

but thats if were talking a big enthusiastic crowd , a legit pumping event

of course someone with enough money could make a big fight anywhere in the world if they really wanted to, it just may have a tiny crowd with 0 atmosphere (saudi-ish)

Well, once (or if) Uganda can get that $12 trillion gold find from 2022, (yes $12 trillion!) safely out of the ground, there should be no end to what will be possible in Africa.

We've all seen what money has done for Israel, Saudi Arabia, China etc.

Why not Uganda?

Because there are two world powers that will stop Ugandans from benefiting from that. Recent news and history is evidence of that.

Probably easier than almost everywhere else I'd imagine
Considering communications today you could do it from just about anywhere
Take Jake Paul down there
Do one in Nigeria to honor AJ's mates
