Re: Hilmer Kenty vs Jim Watt
Interesting hypothetical.
Hilmer Kenty was obviously pretty heavy handed compared to Howard Davis Jr.
Sean O'Grady was able to out-fight him in they're Amazing Action Packed Brawl of a Bout in 1981.
Sean Was Also getting the better of Jim in they're 1980 bout in Scotland, until the nasty head-butt, and subsequent unfair tko stoppage ruling.
Nowadays it would've went to the cards with Sean capturing the wba lightweight title. Technical decision win it would've been ruled as. Especially with the head-butt being so obviously intentional. But even if not, then still it would've been a technical decision victory for Sean in that bout.
In conclusion, I think if this bout(Kenty-Watt) would've been held in Scotland, it may have gone to the cards, and if Kenty didn't dominate well enough then perhaps Watt would've been gifted a Draw. That's what I sense as a fairly likely outcome.
Then again, Kenty might've battered Watt too badly for the bout to go a good ways down the stretch.
So very possibly this could've wound up being another Tko on cuts stoppage loss for Watt.
Wouldn't have surprised me if Watt would've lost this one on cuts, by the 7th round.
Kenty really overpowered Ernesto Espana, twice.
I really saw him as a scaled down version of Hearns, especially after his 2nd demolition of Espana, who himself was a sort of Venezuela version of Alexis Arguello prior to the first bout with Kenty.
I honestly was very surprised, at least Initially, when Watt decisioned Howard Davis Jr.
I really thought that Watt was going to get badly busted up and stopped by the 10th round or so, but I guess Davis just
Wasn't that type of Boxer at that point in time. He did get seemingly a bit better in time, but obviously he was never going to become much of a puncher.
