WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison is planning to leave Scotland and move to Spain.

The Glaswegian, who defends his belt against Englishman Michael Brodie on 3 June, said he had grown tired of the public's attitude towards him.

"When you're on your way up people want to shake your hand but when you're on that pedestal, jealousy kicks in," he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

"But no matter where I live, when I'm in the ring I'm fighting for Scotland."

Harrison, who already owns a house on the Costa del Sol, has received criticism for his performances in recent months.

In October 2004, the 27-year-old destroyed Samuel Kedebe after less than a minute of the first round at the Braehead Arena and was jeered by fans who had expected to see more for their money.

Then in his next fight against Victor Polo in January, at the same venue, he struggled to a draw against the Colombian.

Harrison's next fight will be at Manchester's MEN Arena, where he will take on Brodie on 3 June in one of the biggest fights on the British boxing calendar.

"I am disappointed that the fight is not in Glasgow. If it wasn't for American television I wouldn't be going down there," insisted Harrison.

"My fans are here in Glasgow but it's all about the television for me."

Harrison and his father and trainer Peter have now locked themselves away in isolation at their Fort William training camp in the Highland mountains.

And he promised: "The fans are in for an explosive fight. The fight won't last long but it depends on which Brodie turns up on the night.

"If he wants to stand and trade with me, he will feel he's in the trenches of the First World War.

"If he wants to run, he will last a little longer but I will pick him off with my punches like a sniper."

MMmmm - I'm not to sure moving to Spain is a good idea? Where will he fight in future? That travelling and changing the training regime might adversely effect Scott.

I think it could be a mistake.

He needs to be careful about biting the hand that feeds; the hand that is he talking about people extending to him. And he needs to stop this talk of him being on a pedestal. People like myself pay to see him and support him because he is a good value fighter who always comes for a fight, not because he is a fornicating WBOllocks belt holder.

You could make an argument for him as a proven 'world' champion, but he is in no way a proven World Champion. A lot of people know that up here and so he can't expect us to buy into the PR bullshit. I really thought the shock of the Polo fight (an inspiring performance) would have brought his ego down a notch and made him see things clearly, but clearly it has not.
