Alexander vs Duran ?!?!

Post by stujones »

There is a report up on BBN that Wayne Alexanders' first defence of his WBU title will be against the underated Commonwealth champion, Ossie Duran.

It still very much (from the sounds of the article) in the unconfirmed stage but what a fight it would be. I do find it strange that this story broke in Ghana first - I know Duran is Ghanaian, but is very much based in the UK.

I was impressed with Duran when capturing this title, and he has been long due a major fight since - I wonder if his belt will be on the line aswell?

If not then this does relate to the Richard Williams thread nicely aswell.

Well in this week's Boxing News letters page, Duran has accused Alexander of running scared of him and challenged him. We'll have to wait and see.

Despite the Moore victory I don't think Duran would fare well if Wayne clocked him... but then again, who would?

I see the advantage for Wayne in that he looks naturally fit at 154lb (looked great walking to the ring against Takaloo). Duran isn't a natural light-middle, but he does have that loose style and won't be afraid to attack Wayne - who has looked a little unsteady on his feet at times. Saying that his balance (and performance overall) in the rematch with Mellis was impressive (to me). This would be a good match, IMO.
