Bugner has the skill and ability to beat Mercer but fights too defensively to win, as per usual. Mercer WPTS 12.

I'm giving the edge to Bugner here. If Jesse Ferguson can outbox you, Bugner can, and Mercer ain't knocking Bugner out I don't think. Wouldn't be impossible, but I don't think so Joe was a pretty durable guy, and it took some doing to get him outta there.
Might be a close decision, might be a wide decision, but I think Bugner gets his hand raised.

I agree. But that's assuming Bugner fights his best.

This is a very good and interesting matchup. A very underrated match to me. I would pick Joe Bugner by decision. The guy could box. Ray Mercer could fight his ass off and take a lot of punishment. But, I don't think that he would hurt Bugner. Bugner would have been champion today.
