Lee McGregor Vs Michael Gomez Jr

Post by black panther »

Not seen much chat about this fight but thought it's an interesting one. I've seen the bookies make Gomez Jr a slight favourite which surprised me as he's not beaten anyone of note with respect. He's had a couple decent wins at area level and proved his toughness against Bellotti but ultimately feel British title level is his limit.

With McGregor manner of the Collins loss was a bit of a shocker but I think Collins is at the least solid European level if not fringe world. Back at bantamweight I was really impressed that McGregor managed to to edge out a win over the very skilled and slick Kash Farooq.

Forgive me I've been a quite out of the loop but what is the craic with McGregor now? Is he being written off due to his injuries and/or the loss to Collins?

Figured he'd have too much boxing ability for Gomez Jr.

Really interesting one this five years ago they were poles apart, boxing is a funny old sport. This could be a cracker.

If McGregor is 20% of what many thought he was going to be then he should win this.

But is he already beyond damaged?

I think he also just seemed to lack pop up at lightweight he just couldn't put a dent in Gomez Jr and stop him marching forward.

Good fight actually :box:

McGregor shouldn't be campaigning at lightweight IMO. He's going through a bad patch at the moment.

It came down to size and strength.

You could see the difference in their faces at the end of the contest.

McGregor was more skilled but Marco Antonio Barrera was more skilled than Carl Froch. I know who my money would be on if Barrera took on the Cobra.

McGregor looks like he could make 9st 4lbs to me. He knows best I suppose.

Lee has lost his size advantage up at Lightweight that served him well a few weight divisions down, plus the power is visibly inferior.

From someone who looked capable of dominating at European title level to struggling for British title contention.

McGregor's career is in the balance IMO.

Fair play to Steedo on the opening bell pod recently for saying what a lot of people are thinking and calling into question Benavidez’ insane stamina.

He alluded to a similar suspicion about Gomez after this fight.

If he carries on like that Gomez can definitely kick on. Let’s see who they put him in with in his next few fights.

Different states of careers but would have been good to see an Arthur Jr v Gomez Jr match up!
