First world title fight broadcast on radio. It was a huge deal. Carpentier probably should have tried to outbox him, but it's doubtful anything would have worked against this version Dempsey.

Boxing was at its peak by the 1920s decade. The First Million Dollar Gate is pocket change now. Floyd Mayweather Jr makes $150 million for a fight now. That's unbelievable. Times have really changed.

The fight is still viewable on film . Carpentier was much smaller. In fact he stared boxing as a flyweight.elmersalsa wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026, 15:36 On July 2, 1921, Heavyweight World Champion, Jack Dempsey of Manassa, CO, defeats challenger and former light-heavyweight King Georges Carpentier of France.
