Jack Dempsey vs Georges Carpentier 105th Year Anniversary

On July 2, 1921, Heavyweight World Champion, Jack Dempsey of Manassa, CO, defeats challenger and former light-heavyweight King Georges Carpentier of France.
There were more than 100,000 people watching in the stands for this championship event that broke revenue records at the time and prompted the sport of boxing as the most popular sport in the world at the time.
This was when boxing was #1. It's not a #1 sport now. Times have changed.
Dempsey won by a fourth round knockout.
Carpentier is probably the country of France greatest pound per pound great fighter.
The fight was in Newark, NJ.

First world title fight broadcast on radio. It was a huge deal. Carpentier probably should have tried to outbox him, but it's doubtful anything would have worked against this version Dempsey.

Wow how time went by in 105 years after the First Million Dollar Gate was broadcast!

Boxing was at its peak by the 1920s decade. The First Million Dollar Gate is pocket change now. Floyd Mayweather Jr makes $150 million for a fight now. That's unbelievable. Times have really changed.

The fight is still viewable on film . Carpentier was much smaller. In fact he stared boxing as a flyweight.
