Report: Gervonta Davis won’t be back in ring until 2027
Gervonta Davis fans will now reportedly have to wait until next year for the inactive star’s ring return.
According to a report on X by The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, Bill Haney, father of WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney, was informed by Premier Boxing Champions boss Al Haymon that Davis won't be ready for a ring return until early 2027.
In May, Davis’ career fortunes were further clouded when it was reported he now had a warrant issued for his arrest in Maryland for violating probation, to go along with his criminal charges for a domestic violence incident in Florida.
Soon after, the World Boxing Association rescinded their order for the two-weight WBA world champion to meet top contender Floyd Schofield Jnr next and declared Davis a “Champion in Recess” at lightweight because, they said, his “…ongoing proceedings could prevent him from fulfilling his championship obligations in the short and medium term."
The 31-year-old Davis hasn’t fought since a shaky performance in a draw against Lamont Roach Jnr in March 2025. He had been going back-and-forth with the younger Haney on social media, negotiating a superfight between the pair.
Those plans are now on hold for the rest of the year.
