Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
moses still showed a lot of talent and is very young for a heavyweight. he has plenty of time and room to gain with experience, which he is sorely lacking given how few rounds hes been. i think it's a salvagable loss for sure if he's got a strong mindset
but ya, it was a classic case of a hardnosed vet drowning a hyped guy with a relatively superficial body of experience
moses lack of rounds cant have helped him here. those quick flashy kos looked good, but wont have helped him develop

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
I watched the video of his last 10 knockouts on YouTube and was amazed how quickly the refs were to stop his fights.
Note to dodgy British referees: prospects should be allowed to experience fights where tough journeymen survive the early scare and come back to challenge them. Giftwrapping the KOs doesn't really prepare the A-Side for top level fights.

I never ran Moses down to anyone, just told casuals "let's decide when he fights someone". They thought I was mad.

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
watching the 8th/9th round....moses obviously exhausted, yet still trying to throw power shot bombs and take hrg's head off when he should have been taking the rounds off (had a massive lead) and trying to recoup. a poor read on his own gas tank and his opponent's durability. he looks dumbfounded at times at not being able to take hrgovic out........maybe all the kos got to his head and he thought he would be stopping everyone
i do think he's very talented but you can see where the lack of rounds and the easy blowouts, and maybe all the ass kissing, came back to haunt him. i think he was more than capable of beating hrg if he'd approached this in a more intelligent way, but he hadn't developed that insight as a fighter to execute that

At that point he should have just slowed way down. Gave some rounds away even.. he would have won on points.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Aug 2026, 19:36 watching the 8th/9th round....moses obviously exhausted, yet still trying to throw power shot bombs and take hrg's head off. a poor read on his own gas tank and his opponent's durability. he looks dumbfounded at times at not being able to take hrgovic out........maybe all the kos got to his head

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
I don’t think Itauma can just "win rounds" or win on points in general. His whole style is built around being the explosive power puncher who makes you hesitant to let your hands go because of all the feints and the threat coming back. Once that threat fades, there really isn’t another layer underneath it. His defence isn’t good enough at this level, and when the pace drops, the whole thing starts to fall apart.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Aug 2026, 19:36 watching the 8th/9th round....moses obviously exhausted, yet still trying to throw power shot bombs and take hrg's head off when he should have been taking the rounds off (had a massive lead) and trying to recoup. a poor read on his own gas tank and his opponent's durability. he looks dumbfounded at times at not being able to take hrgovic out........maybe all the kos got to his head

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
he didnt need to win any more rounds - he could at least have done a better job of preserving himself and the lead he'd built though. the guy could barely stand yet was still throwing haymakers like he thought he'd take hrg's head off.Heldenjaeger wrote: ↑29 Aug 2026, 19:39I don’t think Itauma can just "win rounds" or win on points in general. maybe it's a thing with him where he'll never have to discipline to reign himself in when he needs to- it's possible. but i think this could work as a learning expericne and reality check too. well have to see which way it goes for him.

When Haye lost to Thompson he knew he'd left fitness on the table, but I think this is prime cardio for Itauma and it's too much of a handicap at the highest level. He's incredible for 5 minutes.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Aug 2026, 18:50moses still showed a lot of talent and is very young for a heavyweight. he has plenty of time and room to gain with experience, which he is sorely lacking given how few rounds hes been. i think it's a salvagable loss for sure if he's got a strong mindset
Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
I think gassing halfway though the 4th round surprised everyone. He was gassing about the same place when he fought Franklin so that should have been worked on.
You just don't expect that from a fit 21 year old so soon in a fight. I hope it can be worked on.

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
Not one top-30 win. No proven ability over 12 rounds. No evidence he can adjust when the first gameplan fails. No evidence he can handle a world-class heavyweight who survives the early fireworks. But somehow he’s fighting for a vacant world championship because the machine decided it was time.
Promoters have completely reversed the process. You used to earn the hype by beating good fighters. Now you get the hype first, the ranking follows, the title opportunity follows that and only afterwards do we find out whether you were actually good enough.

He had never been past 6 rounds and never really taken a punch. These are things that you need to see before you can get on board a hype train. The people hyping him up were the same people that were running around saying David Price was going to hammer both Klitschkos and rule the division for a decade.

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
He definitely got hyped up way too much, like fans like to do, but he's obviously very talented.
And I'm saying that as someone who wasn't convinced by him before the fight and expected Filip to win.
Like I said in the other thread, at some point you have to accept that you're not going to knock the guy out. If you keep trying it over and over again instead of adjusting, that's just terrible fight IQ.

Mate, 90% of that hype came from Ole Fish Eyes himselfSendo Takeshi wrote: ↑30 Aug 2026, 00:51 He definitely got hyped up way too much, like fans like to do, but he's obviously very talented.

He was the one saying "youngest world champion ' and a bunch of other hyperbole.
It's like Connor Benn, we never even knew if he was the best domestically because he skipped it all. Itauma is ranked #7 in his own country and was fighting for a world title, there's something very wrong about all of that.
Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
YouTube content types are being particularly harsh. He's 21 and lost so what.
Even Frotch is piling in.
One clip did make me chuckle though - Temu Tyson

Agree with much said here. After one of his recent fights Moses said "It's going to be my face and name for the next 15 years!" -- talk about believing your own hype.
The level of egotism colliding with reality and your whole world collapsing must be AJ levels post Ruiz and Dubois pastings, and Usyk twice mastering him. Might be damaged goods now.

Itauma & Warren both got way too arrogant and deserved that loss, but you can't tell me there weren't plenty of (casual) fans acting like Hrgovic had absolutely no chance.KiwiRider wrote: ↑30 Aug 2026, 01:03Mate, 90% of that hype came from Ole Fish Eyes himselfSendo Takeshi wrote: ↑30 Aug 2026, 00:51 He definitely got hyped up way too much, like fans like to do, but he's obviously very talented.

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
Yes your right, but the hype was originating from Fwank, which was picked up on here at least from him. And it is rare for Fwank to hype one of his fighters like that. I think that's what gave it a little more gravitas than coming from someone like Eddie for example.Sendo Takeshi wrote: ↑30 Aug 2026, 02:36

The other thing that stands out from Fwank is that Moses side stepped the usual path - British - Euro - World/Intercontinental - Title eliminator - and then Title.
Giving the impression that Moses didn't need any of that and should be going straight for the big prize.
Not Fwank's usual MO.
Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
Agree with most said on this thread , I do believe he will come back , the lack of experience did show , BUT he pays out a fortune for his trainer to know he;s not experienced and guide him and tell him what to do when to do it b, he pays all these so called s and c coaches , to help get him in shape , but they don't know what the shape is he needs to be in ,, he is 21 and he is inexperienced , and he is talented , He just needs a trainer who can guide him correctly he basicly needs a proper trainer NOT A FANBOY
Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
My knowledge of boxing training is almost non existent. but surely they could have found this out. Even by just making him do 12 rounds sparring against a succession of opponents who weren't really trying to hurt him. Wouldn't it have been apparent that he couldn't do it at the moment? And shouldn't that have given them pause?coneye wrote: ↑30 Aug 2026, 04:25 Agree with most said on this thread , I do believe he will come back , the lack of experience did show , BUT he pays out a fortune for his trainer to know he;s not experienced and guide him and tell him what to do when to do it b, he pays all these so called s and c coaches , to help get him in shape , but they don't know what the shape is he needs to be in ,, he is 21 and he is inexperienced , and he is talented , He just needs a trainer who can guide him correctly he basicly needs a proper trainer NOT A FANBOY

Nooo, we love a hype train, keeps us interested either way.
End of the day that's a promoter doing a good job

Re: Time to retire Hype Trains?
I'm doubtful it can to the extent of no longer posing a problem. He's a history of blowing early and looked in the best shape of his career. He could try dropping to 230 with a heavy focus on endurance training, looking at how distance runners peak after years of conditioning, but he needs a progressive rebuild.
Someone like Vianello or Mak over 8 rounds next, onto the Bakole/Ajagba level over 10.
