Shortest retirement of all time? Ruiz is back!!

Post by johnswan1 »

After a short-lived retirement following his April 30 loss to James Toney, former two-time WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz has decided to return to the squared circle in an effort to regain a heavyweight crown. According to Ruiz' attorney Tony Cardinale, "John has decided that his decision to retire was premature. After much thought, and conversations with his family and Stoney and I, he wants to get his belt back at the earliest opportunity and to fight any of the other heavyweight champions out there."

Added Ruiz in a statement issued late Monday, "My emotional decision, coming right after losing a fight I felt I won, was premature," he said. "I was tired of all the criticism and felt everybody was against me. After reviewing the tape and talking it over with my advisors, I decided that I don't want to go out that way. If they want me out of the sport, they're going to have to knock me out. I'm back.

I think the perfect fight for everyone involved would be a November rematch against Tua. Ruiz wants to erase past demons and try to get some credibility and Tua needs a name to re-establish himself as a major player after his time off

So could Ruiz be brought to the UK for the Skelton-Williams winner?

He's still a credible scalp, not that I would say he's the underdog.

I would have Ruiz a big favourite over either of the pair...

And given that I don't think either would take him on without a title at stake.

The prospect of Skelton v Ruiz makes me physically sick.
