Marion Connor/Marty Franklin Fight Result 9/12/1968

This fight was actually held at Canton Memorial Auditorium. Marty Franklin won this fight by Unanimous Decision. This was a Pro-Am fight card, all undercard bouts were amateur fights (never see these anymore). The event was promoted by Marion Connor, whose last name is actually Conner. His nickname was "kayo"; never knew him to be known as Thunderbolt. I believe Marion was a former AAU champion on the squad that included Jimmy Ellis. He was a natural southpaw converted to orthodox as fights were easier to get and also was a natural middleweight but even fought as a heavyweight on occasion. He was ranked #10 briefly as light heavy. Marty Franklin (aka Earl Averette) was also from Canton and he and Marion were former schoolmates and football players at Canton McKinley H.S.
