Biggest Brit puncher ever?

Another banal one to pass the time. Who was the biggest puncher, pound for pound, that Britain has produced? Naseem Hamed springs to mind, and I believe Earnie Shavers lives on the Wirral these days...

Although it is hard to gauge how much of Jimmy Wilde's stories are myth or fact if half of them a true - he should be topping most peoples list in all different facets of boxing domestically - Chin, Punch, ability, record etc etc.

Jimmy Wilde without a doubt in my mind. To find out what is fact and what is fiction all one has to do is their own research about not only Wilde's fights, but the careers of the fighters that he faced from contemporary reports and not rely on latter day idolism that is based entirely on what he said, and he said, and he said...myself included! That being said, George Odwell and Eric Boon should be thrown in the mix as well!

Lewis had a mean right hand, Hamed had the straight left to ko anybody of landed clean from 122 to 130.

By the way, do any of the British gentlemen know what happened to Hamed?
Ever since Barrera schooled him he disappeared. Does he intend to ever come back? And at what weight. I read a while back that he weighed 145 which would make it close to impossible the make 126 and be viable.

He was very entertaining with that flying carpet entrance thing.

And how about Herbie? Would he fancy a fight at 200lb agaisnt Mormeck? He could punch a bit but he was better suited to cruiser.
Too bad so many small guys try to compete at heavy when they are really cruisers. I know the money is better, but isnt better to be cruiser champ than heavyweight trial horse?

hamed would love to be 145... i am sure he is close 170!!!!

I dont think herbie could do 200 anymore... he is quite bulky these days and probably too lazy to do the necessary road work!

Yeah I read that myself. Not sure Herbie's chin was that bad, he seemed to lose as much thru fear against Bowe and Klitschko getting put down by nothing punches. Then again that Chingangu fella sent him glassy-eyed, so maybe it WAS that bad.

Lennox Lewis for my money is a very underrated puncher, his overhand right/right cross is probably as hard a right hand as has ever been seen in heavyweight boxing when he got full extension on it.

The problem is finding that many British fighters who were able to do it at top level, plenty of guys were destroying everyone till they stepped up then when they hit world class, guys just stopped falling over.
