This is strange.

Post by chado »

I own a pub and its not a big boxing pub, infact quite the opposite. If I have the boxing on sometimes they ask me to turn it off coz no one is watching it. However I cant believe how many of them are watching the Contender series, they love it.............strange.

Not sure why this is. :-?

Think how frustrating it is for us small hall promoters. I chat to people in Bristol who say how great the contender is and how they can't wait to see next weeks fight. Then when it comes to a local prospect like Lee Haskins who is 12-0 and lives 3 streets aways from them they can't be bothered to come along and support him on a local show.

PS i am a fan of the Contender

You should play 'dramatic' music during your fights, and get the boxers to land 'meaningful punches' in slo-mo for that true to life 'Contender Experience'. :box:

The whole format is carefully geared to create theatrical style suspense, and they have the bonus of editing the boring crap out of the boxing world. For those who don't know boxing it's ideal, the characters are packaged and analysed and carefully presented, the participants are hand picked to start with, and the production values are far higher than anything real boxing can offer.

The problem with real boxing (and this is no reflection at all on any individual promoter) is that you have to sit through a lot of boring rounds to find the excitement. If you understand boxing it's different, because you can see the nuances, but for most people, they don't want to even probably watch whole fights, unless they are 'world' title fights which have been hyped up.

I hate the contender, have seen better acting in Sunset Beach, those sound effects are cheesy, they should add in captions saying "pow" and "biff" like on the old Batman series :TU:
