SAAD v MUSTAFA II, what if..........? (it did nearly happen)

Post by overhand_right »

In the 70s Eddie Gregory won a 10 rd decision over Matthew Franklin. Years later in 1981, when they were both champs, they were gonan square off for millions at MSG on the original Norton/Cooney card in a light heavy unification fight.

Who was the stronger fighter at this point? Who would have been crowned the undisputed champ?

I know Mustafas win over Saad has been said to have been controversial, but at this point in 81 Saad was no Michael Spinks & I could see Mustafa picking him apart in his controlled manner, much as he did so brilliantly against Marvin Johnson.

This was a great fight and no excuse for not having a rematch. I would have put money on Saad. But most here seem to think Mustafa would repeat the performance.

I'd go for Saad to win. He improved after the Mustafa bout and became more aggressive. I think he'd have been too aggressive and have too much heart for Mustafa the second time around.

Got to go with Saad, but only because I am biased.

He was my first boxing hero, after I saw his fights with Lopez & Conteh.

If only Mike Tyson had 1/3 of Saad's heart!!!!!

Right on point.I pick Saad basically, he wants it more.If Mustafa tried that lackadasical crap on Saad, he would get it worse.
