Have checked the New York Times about this fight / fights. We have a bout at Birmingham on 6/20/1928 with a KO1 for Stribling. This does not get a mention in the New York Times which however does give the results of fights from seven other cities for that day. We have a 6/23/1928 bout at Montgomery with a KO2 which is reported in the Times. (The KO coming "after a few second of the 2nd round"). I would seriously doubt the first bout and think that our record should show the second bout only.
Further to the previous questions about Hudkins / Holley - The Times confirms this fight was at Lincoln, Nebraska, and the name is given as Holley. Also the Times reports the Canzoneri bout on 6/13/1928 as being against Vic Foley who from their report put up a good showing. So these two are now settled.

Correction - the quote "after a few second of the 2nd round" may relate to the Hudkins/ Holey fight as similar phrasing was used for that report. However there is no doubt that the Stribling / Clancy fight of 6/23/28 also ended in the 2nd round. I looked this up as the library was closing and remember thinking that the phrase would explain how it could be recorded as a first round KO, but did not have enough time to write it in my notes before I was kicked out. Will check it out again but there is no doubt about this fight, the date, the venue and the result. By the way this is also in the 1929 World Almanac which does not list Stribling as having a fight on 6/20/1928.
