TO KEVIN: Dont forget CHIC CALDERWOOD in your book of BRITISH FIGHTERS. If your not allready familiar with him the Scotsman had a so so won lost record, but the wins included beating the hell out of WILLIE PASTRANO in 1960, splitting 2 ten rounders with VON CLAY, a tenner over JOHNNY PERSOL and going the full 15 in a losing effort with GIULIO RINALDI for the EUROPEAN LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE. Always known as a fatalist, you never knew when the real CALDERWOOD would show up. Impressive wins would be followed by unexpected and unexplained defeats. The only time he is listed as being stopped was when he challenged JOSE TORRES for the WORLD TITLE in San Juan in 1966 when "CHEGUI" bombed him in 2 rds. Shortly after that CALDERWOOD was killed. I think it was a motorcycle accident and that he was only 29. He was a monumental could have been who may have been his own worst enemy.
Do some research and ask people in Scottish boxing circles about CALDERWOOD. From what I can remember he was a story in itself. As a boxer his name alone was priceless. I've always remembered that name. Dan Coli
