I was looking through the micro film today for a couple hours, researching old fights for a report... but anyway, in the late 30's thru the mid 50's that I was researching, I came across a lot of local cards, would the local newspaper be a legit enough source for you to add the local bouts/cards?

I would say "yes." In fact, for the past few weeks I have been inserting bouts based solely on contemporary newspaper articles. Because I do not have any RING Record Books or most other notable boxing record resources, my source is generally contemporary newspaper accounts.

I think these are the best source, although spelling is often slightly different from bout to bout, where the home town and weight is given it makes it relatively easy to correctly identify fighters. This is going to be the only way we can compile the records of the non-world champions from the era before the Ring Record Book, and also to be able to correct errors in the RRR. I use the New York Times but it gives limited coverage of major boxing centres like Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles so if anybody has access to these great.
Colin.
