Best Thailand boxers of all time

Post by IronKidDynamite »

I didn't say Thai boxers coz that could be a bit confusing who were the best boxers from Thailand? Im a big Muay Thai fan nad it seems some are great boxers also.

I have seen a few greats like Sot Chitalada against Magri and a few modern ones like Vorapin who lost to Lopez but i dont see much Thais. Supposedly Saman Sorjaturong was great i havent seen him.

Who were best Thai fighters and explain their style(e.g. punching power, speed etc.)

Chitalada was a stick and move style fighter with a very hard Liston-like left jab and good left hook. His defensive movement was really good.

Galaxy

The guy looked amazing. He tried to unify the title (well he fought one of the other title hodlers and beat them) but it was one of thse dodgy alphabet decisions whereby the other holder got stripped of his belt.

He punched like a featherweight.

gotta agree with ezzard here--from his fights that I saaw galaxy was a monster puncher (without being sloppy or reckless about it) who always seemed like he could keep throwing punches forever.

You want a good Muay Thai fighter? Check out the Khmer Muay Thai Champion, E Pho Thoung he has a record of 175-5-0 in his home country.

Yesss!!! The Thai Tyson (Galaxy) :TU: :TU: :TU: . He was devastating. He did not lose in his last 44 bouts. I think he was the greatest fighter from the Far East (Orient)

The other Thai greats:
Pone Kingpetch (3 time flyweight champ)
Chartchai Chionoi ( a tough cookie)
Sot Chitalada (good boxer)
and Saensak Muansgurin (only 3 pro fights, and becomes WBC Jr welter champ)

Khaosai Galaxy and Veeraphol Sahaprom.

Heard a lot of good things about the talent of former flyweight champ Chatchai Sasakul, who is the middle of a comeback.

Khaosai Galaxy is the best fighter from Thailand without a doubt - In fact he is the best JBW in history (most likely) -

Other Great Thai fighters -

Ratanapol Sor Vorapin (strawweight) champion - Who made like 17 defenses (in two reigns) with 15 or 16 of them coming by KO -

Saman SorJaturong was another very good Thai world Champion - Winning the title via KO Vs the great little man Humberto Gonzalez - He made 9 or 10 defenses of his title (in his prime) -

M. Kittikasem was also exciting to watch - M. Carbajal Ko'd him at JFLY for the title - Kittikasem beat Sot Chitalada twice (though Sot was probably slightly past his prime.....Sot being another very good fighter from Thailand)

V. Sahaprom was another top fighter (witout a doubt...though he is past his prime now....but still has a decent shot at winning back his BW title).

Phicht Singbangprachan retired undefeated as IBF champion - at 23 or 24-0-0 (somewhere around there) - He is the older brother of current top JFLY P Siriwat (though they are nothing alike....Singbangprachan was a complete banger with big power....his younger brother Siriwat is a slick boxer with good skills and decent power -

I just mentioned him (Phichit Singbangprachan) above in my comments - Didn't see your question about him -

I have 5 of his fights on tape - He is a banger - aggressive guy who keeps coming at you (but has a decent jab on the way in) - He is very built for a Fly Wt (big shoulders and chest) - Very solid chin - Not the greatest defense - Has good stamina -

Kind of raw to an extent (in his style) but at the same time does a number of things very well -

Singbangprachan had to retire after his fight with Jose Luis Zepeda (which was his last defense - brain damage of some sort) - though he fought later that year again...then retired .....again came back in 2000 for some hometown fights -

I've lived in Thailand for nearly 10 years now and cover the boxing scene here.

Some good names thrown out here...

One fighter I haven't seen mentioned was Samart Payakarun who was not only a great Muay Thai fighter but also a very good boxer. There have been rumors in Thailand he took a dive against Fenech for the $$$ but frankly I don't buy it.

Khaosai and Samart are certainly two of the most popular Thai fighters of all time however neither consistently fought quality opposition. Not his fault but I would have liked to see him in at bantamweight with Rueben Olivares, Carlos Zarate or someone of that nature.

You can't forget Pongsaklek Wongjamkam either. He's tough, talented, never out of shape and can fight like hell.

As for the guy who mentioned Ae Pho Thoung...I am friends with him and have interviewed him and been to his house. I've been to Cambodia around 30 times and go to his gym or see him at fights every couple of times. He is a very, very good kickboxer...not the same as a boxer and he wouldn't do nearly as well in western boxing in my opinion. He is probably the greatest fighter in recent Cambodian history but in all honesty while I think he is an 8 out of 10 as a kickboxer, I don't think he would can be termed "one of the greatest" had he fought the majority of his fights outside of Cambodia or against westerners who were at an elite level in Muay Thai or Kickboxing. Very, very good but the word great in my opinion should be reserved for a fighter like Harry Greb, Sugar Ray Robinson, etc...

Two good fighters fighting tomorrow here in Thailand...Sirimongkol Singwancha and Sataporn Singwancha fighting tune-ups. Sirimongkol is the #2 ranked lightweight scheduled to fight the winner of Corales-Castillo.

BTW - I believe Ratanachai is going to get beat, tko'd. I think if and when Pongsaklek fights Arce he guts it out and wins a decision.

Pone Kingpetch and Chartai Chinoi are big favourites of mine......
