Derek Angol

Post by stujones »

Anyone remember him well? I cannot remember him that well but sure he featured in a few TV bouts in the 80's. I was reading some of the old BM and BN's and they both seemed to be quite high on him. Both he and Nelson (in the days when he was entertaining) were featured in the Worlds top ten - although judging by Angol's record it looks a little flattering because he never beat anyone with a superb record.

Anyone know why he didn't feature in bouts with the likes of Nelson, Thompson and McCory. Was he world class? What was he like as a fighter.

Angol looked good on the way up with some televised bouts, he was excellent the night he beat Tee Jay with a one punch knockout in the 3rd.

When he fought Tyrone Booze for the WBO title he was a big favourite, and for the frist 3 rounds looked like he was going to win, he came out really fast throwing loads of punches, unfortunatly he blew himself out and Booze took the early shots to come back to win in the 7th.

The same basiclly happened in his other losses, Angol was a good fighter but a level below world class, as it showed when he stepped up.
I'm not sure what Derek Angol is doing now.

On a footnote Tyrone Booze was injured a few month ago when the Dusttruck he was working with ran him over, i think he made a recovery in time but it was touch and go for a while.
