heres my top ten. and their not by odds. feel free to disagree and share ur opinion with me and well have a nice debate.
1. Buster douglas KO 10 Mike Tyson- no questions asked. tyson was invincible 40-1 odds, and he was facing the worst challenger to date in title defenses.
2. Leonard ws 12 over Hagler- come on, hagler was middelweight king, who has destroyed almost all the top contenders and champs who have come into his path. and leonard, hadnt basically fought a fight in 5 years and the one he did he was KNOCKED DOWN BY A 2ND RATE FIGHTER. and now for the first time in 3 years, hes stepping up in his FIRSST fight at middelweight to face one of the greatest middelweights ever. leonard easily could have lost his skills, and to beat hagle he would have to show more skill than in his best days at welterwight. whether or not u believe sugar won, by getting the decision that was one of the biggest upsets ever. u just dont come off a practically 5 year layoff, fight at a higher weight and expect to beat a all time great whos has dominated that division for the past 7 years.
3. foreman KO 10 over Moorer- foreman was 45, had lost his skills and was overweight, and had already lost to holyfield and was coming off a wide decision loss to tommy morrison, and he was facing a undefeated heavyweight champion who had beat holyfield, and moorer was at his peak. and foreman was nearly shut out the first 10 rounds, moorer on his way to a wide decision. then BOOM.
4. Turpin wu 15 over Robinson- Turpin had not beat any top contenders, and the only notible up to that point he fought was aging teddy yaroz. Turpin is stepping up a huge scale in competetion to face a 128-1 peak robinson who is already an all time great. turpin goes out their and just beats and outboxes a prime robinson in robinsons most shocking loss. hee enjoyed it for 64 days lol.
5. braddock 15u over max baer- this obvisely deserves it, because braddock was viewed as an overblow light-H who was on the downfall of his carrer and had gathered up a few lucky wins to get a shot. BRADDOCK PROVED THEM WRONG. people were saving this might be maxs 2nd victim he kills. max baer after his annilahlation of cannera and schemliing was viewed as one of the hardets hitters ever and in the prime of his life. braddock showed he wasnt afraid of max and max took him lightly and clowned around while braddock piled up points. brradock showed heart when max tried to knockhim out at the end with his trademark overhand right but he couldnt do it.
6. ali KO 8 foreman- hears a 32 year old ali whos considereed past his prime and had already lost to frazier, and unproven ken norton. he fougt his way back to a tile shot but he was facing what people thought was the most destructive machine on earth. he just destroyed eveyrone he faced. he annihalated fraizer and norton, who both beat ali, in two rounds. foreman was in his prime at 25, and ali went out their at 32 and just used his experience and ring savvy and found foremans weakness and knocked out a tired drained foreman.
7. Loyd Honeyghan TKo 6 over Donald Curry- this was a big upset because after leonard retired, curry took his place as the dominant welterweight. he defeated adoplh virtuet and bruce finch and won a split decision over tough undefeated marlon starling to earn a shot. he then easily beatwang to win the title then defended it over marlon starling again, knocked out colin jones, then unified the title wit ha sensational knockout over milton mccory. he was undiputed champ in the prime of his life and a big weltweright, he was actually considered a threat to marvin hagler. then he has one supoosedy easy defense over a young undefeated honeghan. but honeyghan had been fighting nobodies and only british fighters. he had not beaten one serious contender and was stepping up to face curry and just gave curry a beating ruining curry and ending all that hagler-curry talks.
8. schmelling over Louis- this is a big one. heres max schmelling who had had his time winning the title but then he lost it. he was consideered on the downcline. he had also recieved a beating by max baer, and joe lousi gave baer a beating. max then drew with uzcuden and lost to steve hamas. he manged to beat them both in rematches and now faced louis. louis on the other hand was the top contender and at 23, had punished max baer and primo carnera former champs and any other contenders in his path like kingfish levinksey and paulino uzcuden. then schemlling goes out their and hands louis a beating from the 4th round and on landing about 50 right hands per round until he knocks out louis.
9. Norton 12s over ALI- here was a guy, norton, who had not beaten any top ten contenders and was fighting fights for $ 300 against club fighters and the only contender he faced was jose luis garcia who knocked him out. heres muhammad ali, with one loss and 31 who still hasnt shown drastic signs of aging yet and was coming off 10 straight easy wins against top contenders. the promoter was afriad the fight wouldnt sell because it was going to be so easy for ali and almost called it off. then norton goes out and beats muhammad ali. HUGE UPSET IN MY OPINION.
10. Benitez 15s over Cervantes- u prob dont think this deserves to be on the list. but in my opion it does. certianly its prob not mentioed because it wasnt a famous or classic fight. but look at it this way, benitez was ONLY 17 YEARS OLD. too young to even be a proffesional. and benitez got a shot after 2 years of beating not one top contender. benitez wasnt EVEN A TOP TEN CONTENDER. now benitez was fighting a champion who at 31 was still in his prime and who has 12 years of ring experience to benitez 2. and cerantes had been JW champ for 4 years cleaning out the top contenders of the division. he had just beat esteban dejsus lightwieght champ who beat duran. cervantes a future hall of famer looked to be the dominant champ for years to come. and this great champion/future HOF loses to a non top ten conteder who was only a boy at 17. cervantes was a powerful man who dominated all of the top men but lost his title to a unproven boy??? this is A HUGE UPSET whether u realzie it or not. u then realized benitez was going to become a great champion. but for a 17 year old inexperienced boy to defeat a 31 year old top champion with loads of exerpience and a powerful and strong hitter, u have to wonder how he had the physical tools to win. he had just gotten through puberty and it wasnt like he beat joe scmoe, he beat a HOF at the top of his game. it showed after when cervantes won the title back from carlos giminez and dominated it for another 3 years.
HM: mcguien 15u over pedroza, Ali TKO 7 Liston,
Walcott KO 7 charles, spinks 15s over ali, rahman KO 5 lewis,
talylor 12s over hopins, laing 10u over duran, and more.
did i overate any or misplace some. which important ones did i forgett?????

I think Foreman's win should be number 2. Honeyghan over Curry was amazing. I'm not sure about McGuigan's win over Pedroza. pedroza had been on the wane and it was obvious that sooner or later he was going to lose one.
Spinks win over Holmes was a big upset. No Light heavy champion had done that before and the size difference was much bigger than in the past.
Wasn't saddler a big underdog against Pep? maybe one of the old timers will help me out here.

...yes, saddler was a big underdog against pep....until fight time got closer and the odds dropped dramatically.....so much so that the boxng commision..inhaling something odiferous...called both fighters in and told them they would be watching very closely to see that each one gave his best. willie was probably in hock to gamblers..he usually was.....he often said his problem was "slow horses and fast women."
when the commision statement came out the odds shifting slowed down a bit but still were nowhere near what they were at the start.
some boxing folk thought pep went ahead and tanked it anyway...but they were in the minority. however, the great showing by pep in the rematched brought a few of the old doubts back again.
didn't see the fight and no film exists so i have no first hand opinion...but i do go along with the majority who thought the fight was legit.

In my opinion, Schmeling's win over Louis should be higher on the list. Louis was absolutely invincible at the time Schmeling beat him. Nobody, and I mean nobody, thought that Schmeling would last past the 5th round. This definitely deserves to be in the top 5. I think the reason that people don't put this upset in the top 5 is because Louis redeemed himself w/ KO1 of Schmeling in the rematch. This is still one of the most remarkable upsets of all time though.
