Soliman matches on towards title shot

ex british based middleweight Sam Soliman won a unanimous 10 round fight over Fernando Zuniga last night.

Sam is currently IBF number 1, has been for a long time now (12 months)... with Taylor out of action and likely to fight Hopkins when he returns it looks like Taylor will be stripped of the IBF title and Sam will fight Kingsley Ikeke for the vacant strap..

If any boxer has done it the hard way its Sam, lets hope he gets the belt this year!!!!

Sam has done very well since losing to Eastman, never really considered him world class but a decent and very awkard fighter when he was Commonwealth champ many moons ago. He has obviously improved alot since those days.

However, I don't think he'll beat Ikeke.

big difference between the old Sam and the new one is that he doesnt have to take fights on a weeks notice now, against bigger guys in their back yard.

His manager, Stuart Duncan, is a really nice guy who really looks after Sam and has the business skills to go with it.

Ikeke is underrated, very tall, very awkward and hard to nail with a clean shot.

Is the guy who Sam Soliman beat Fulgencio Zuniga who fought Daniel Santos a while back?

No, he beat Fernando Zuniga, a decent journeyman who has fought at both 160 and 168. At 160, he fought as a late replacement against William Joppy and lost a lopsided decision. In 2001, he had some success as a super middleweight (sort of at least). He lost a controversial split decision to Thomas Tate for the NABF title (ESPN2 main event). He was a late sub in the fight for Scott Pemberton. Later that year, he showed up against on ESPN2 and knocked out Scorpion Bawa. Then he got another ESPN2 main event against Charles Brewer and put up a good showing. This year he reappeared on the scene and beat the crap out of Troy Rowland, who was thought to be a pretty good prospect at 160.

Fulgencio Zuniga is another guy from a different country.

Ok cheers Zhuge, Fulgencio Zuniga was an unbeaten Colombian if i remember correctly, not heard of the other guy.
