Mark Knopfler's "Song for Sonny Liston"

Has anybody here heard the song that Mark Knopfler(Dire Straits fame) wrote and sings about the life and death of Sonny Liston? I though it was a pretty good song and tribute to Sonny Liston. Any comments.....

Downloaded and listened to it...interesting song...Knopfler must be a fan if he wrote it...certainly makes numerous references to taking a dive for money...

...it's a good song...I do not believe it to be 100% accurate as far as Sonny's career and the 2nd Ali fight...but, as a song, it doesn't have to be accurate...

...actually, it's the best boxing song I ever heard...of course, 'boxing songs' are a short list...

That is true. I saw him play it live a couple weeks ago in San Diego CA. He made mention of who the song was about before he started to play it. It sounded good live. I have since bought he CD it is on. I am still trying to figure out some of the words.

He had a left like Henry's hammer
A right like blah,blah blah.......(I can not understand what he says there)

Try listening to The Hurricane by Bob Dylan. Although some consider it to be highly inaccurate... it's a damn good song in my own opinion. It actually seems inspiring and well, it's a folk song sorta. As for Mark Knopfler's song... it's a very good song also. And if you knew Spanish, boxing songs would have a longer list... although not a very good one.. not saying all of them suck but some are just annoying.

Hey...I forgot about that one...maybe Knopfler's song is #2 after all...
