Page-Berbick

Post by dempseyfire »

Who's seen this fight? Is it worth getting? It was one of the few bouts which Page seemed to come in in shape and he still lost to the limited but determined Berbick . . .what happened?

I remember watching it on the undercard of Holmes-Cooney, and it was one of Trevor Berbick's best performances. Berbick dominated the action and took the fight to Page for almost the entire bout. Early in the fight Page was on his way down when he was saved by the ropes. The other real memorable moment of the fight was when Berbick was heard to say in his thick Jamaican accent "C'mon faggot".

After this fight I had very high expectations for Berbick, but instead he was disappointing in his next two outings. First Renaldo Snipes gave him a lesson in agression, and then Berbick was dominated by cruiserweight ST Gordon in a bout in which he looked like he was on sleeping pills.

Yeah. I remember thinking that Berbick must've been on some kind of dope, because he did almost nothing the whole time and seemed spaced out.

The Berbick-Page fight was a great one if you were backing Trevor as I was in those days.

It was a case of Trevor taking the fight to Greg, and Greg, not really polished in his fighting skills at that point, incapable of fighting on the inside. He broke his thumb in the second round, and just threw punches from the outside.
