, remember that fight? the thing is, i dont remember what caused Chavez to be so mad at Haugen?

Maybe he just beat him up so bad because it was in the heart of Mexico in front of a huge amount of spectators.

..chavez was furious at haugan because in his pre-fight buildup haugan scoffed at chavez's record, saying he had just beaten a bunch of "tiajuana taxi drivers." the huge crowd, which probably contained more than a few of the latter roared and cheered at every punch chavez landed, which meant they did a lot of roaring and cheering that night.
