I was wondering whether anyone knows how I could get hold of the punchstat figures for the Lennox Lewis vs Shannon Briggs fight?
The reason I am interested is to see what Lewis's punches landed% is, because Briggs seemingly made no attempt to avoid his punches whatsoever. The combination of an accurate puncher with a good defense and high workrate (Lewis) and a fighter with virtually no defense (Briggs) must have made for a massive difference in the punchstat figures.
Of course those who have seen the fight would know that Briggs was actually on-top early in the fight and Lewis had trouble defending against Briggs's good handspeed. Of course as time went on the effect of several Lewis power shots resulted in Briggs being repeatedly knocked to the canvas and TKO'd. I remember late in the fight while Briggs was taking virtually every punch Lewis threw, a commentator saying
"It seems that Shannon Brigg's defense may not be good enough against Lennox Lewis".
I laughed out loud, it was the biggest case of stating the obvious I had ever heard!

Seriously though, will anyone back me up on what I said about the fight. I think Briggs took almost every single punch Lennox threw, and hardly made any attempt to avoid them. Perhaps he thought Lewis's chin was worse than it was, so his strategy was all out attack and forget about defence so that he could get in a few big punches and end the fight quickly?
I've never seen Briggs fight anyone else, so could anyone inform me if his defence is normally that bad? I'm sure he couldn't have beaten Foreman by using the exact same tactics.

Watch the Foreman/Briggs fight again. Foreman was robbed. And yes, Briggs' defense has always been pretty poor.jezzamundo wrote:Seriously though, will anyone back me up on what I said about the fight.
