Herbie Hide turns up in... Canada?

The boxrec schedule shows Herbie Hide will make his dramatic 200lb comeback at a show in Canada next weekend. The opponent is a certain Mr. Tyrone Roberts, who started his career at Cruiserweight back in 1999 and has since shown himself to be a bit of a puncher with 8 stoppages in his 10 wins. He only has 2 defeats in his 12 overall fights but, last fight aside, there's no shame losing your unbeaten run to such a legendary fighter... 8)

Well it will be interesting to see Herbie's weight if nothing else, despite the press release I didn't expect Herbie to return, he is such a loose cannon.

It will be interesting anyway.

Interesting stuff, i for one didn't expect Hide to return at all, in all honesty he will never amount to anything at this late stage of his career but if it keeps him out of trouble so be it. Not sure why he in with a "puncher" of sorts although i suspect Roberts opposition is probably dodgy, we all know how bad Herbie's famous chin is.

Roll on the Herbie fighting machine!

Former two-time WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide will be making his cruiserweight debut as he battles Brazilian Daniel Bispo on the Alcine-Avendano undercard at the Casino de Montreal on September 10th. Hide twice held the WBO belt for heavyweight supremacy, the first time as a 23 year old capturing the title in 1994, losing it a year later to Riddick Bowe. Hide would once again regain the title in 1997 versus Tony Tucker and defended it twice before losing to Vitali Klitschko in 1999. Always been considered a smallish heavyweight, Hide fought the majority of his title fights around the 215 pound mark. Now, after just turning 34 last week, Hide has decided to make the move down and is planning an all out assault on the cruiserweight division. Trained by Floyd Mayweather Senior, Hide presently trains out of Las Vegas. Possessing debilitating power, 34 of his 35 wins have come by way of knockout.

What a fall from grace it has been for motormouth Hide!

Not so long ago, you could not shut him up, talking about knocking out Danny Williams, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis etc & being HW champ & now he turns up in a country that is hardly known for boxing, in a division that nobody cares about!

Oh how the (not so) mighty fall!!!!

Am i the only one who likes Herbie, agreed he might be a dick but at least you gunna see an entertaining fight, he either gunna get banged or bang some one.

The most interesting thing about this card is the headliner Joachim Alcine at Light Middleweight, unbeaten in 24 with 17 KO's, he has stopped Carlos Bojorquez, Carl Daniels and Elio Ortiz in his last three outings and has some other reasonable names on his record. His progress has been steady and he is going in the right direction, anyone seen anything of him?

I like Hide too, I think it would have been good if he had fought Harrison at the time when the were 4 HWs who were hanging around at the top in Britain. Shame about boxing politics really.

What do you mean, Canada is a very good country for boxing, Montreal is where the best action is. They had very good fighters that put Canada on the map a very long time ago my friend.

Very true! The Hilton's sold out many a card at the Forum during the 80's - and no wonder, always value for money with that style! Then there were warriors like Johnny Summerhays and Gaetan Hart - who seemed to go on forever.

In the new era there's the talented Eric Lucas, and prospect Lucian Bute, to look out for.

I'd love to go to a big fight card at a packed Bell Centre!

I stand corrected.

I was basing my assumptions on the fact than top Canadian fighters, either represent other countries (Lennox Lewis) or do all of their fighting & training in the USA etc (Razor Ruddock).

I apologise; I did not mean to upset Canadians.

the dancing destroyer better days are now behind him,but at his peak he was a good boxer very fast good fast foot work.he also could bang abit,but the down side to his game was he had a suspect chin,and left him self far to opened at times.but to me he was second to lewis in the best heavy weight to come out of england.

Hide should just sign with DK. He cant beat Ruiz or Byrd but his power will make it entertaining while it lasts. He could definitely deck either guy & im sure the yanks remember his balls v Riddick Bowe. The fights are sellable.

Too much time has past, alot of yanks know of his Klitchsko performance and even before that fight were calling him chinny cause of the Bowe up and downer, and downer and downer.

I think he would struggle to sell them, because Hide hasn't beaten anyone of note - and most statesiders knew Tucker was finished before he fought Hide.

Sorry, I was attempting humour (I'm at a very early stage of this. Next term my teacher says we're going to begin knock knock jokes if we've done our homework over the holidays properly.)

No doubt Hide is the one who's pulled out in the end. Don't think it would be a simple case of making the weight, although it would have been interesting to see a weigh-in. Cold feet, shitting it, thinking he'll wait until Mormeck challenges him. One of those theories are probably the reason
