LIAM SKI MULLINS
LIAM SKI MULLINS
Hi all, looking for information on liam mullins aka ski mullins fought in webley on the clay cooper undercard,he was a professional irish boxer circa 1960s,any information would be greatly appreciated, thanking you,5starred
Mullen's name is spelt "Liam Mullen" and the nickname was spelt "Ske".
If you enter Liam + Mullen in the "name search" on Boxrec you'll see his professional record = 33 fights, 19 wins, 14 losses.
I watched Ske several times when he was an amateur in the National Stadium in Dublin in the early 1960s (though I have no idea why he was called Ske!). He boxed for the Crumlin Club, and was a good fighter, with quite a distinct style as I recall - he was quite tall and fought with his shoulders slightly stooped, chin resting on chest. I can't remember if he represented Ireland at International level - he was certainly good enough to do so, but was a contemporary of a very good amateur (and like Mullen, later a moderately successful pro) called Gus Farrell.
As a pro, Ske was good enough to hold his own on the British circuit - good enough to beat the average fighters, not quite at the level where he could make a breakthrough to the very top of that circuit. I saw him fight Gus Farrell twice as a pro - won one on a stoppage and lost the return.
Not sure what happened to him after he quit the game - I think he stayed in England but that was all a long time ago and he may well have moved further afield or even back to Dublin. I'd love to know...
Would also like to hear any news of Gus Farrell - who I mentioned above. Last I heard of Gussie he was in Aer Lingus as a PT Instructor (or in modern parlance, a "personal trainer"!) but I think he left there a while back...
Hopefully some other posters can provide more detail on Ske than I have managed to...but like I say, look up his record with the spelling Liam Mullen and that's a start.
