Hi - just came back form the York Hall.

A brief rundown -

Gary Woolcombe w RTD 7 (I think) Delroy Mellis
Went to the toilet here (I was burtsing!) and missed the ending. I was told it was a retirtement but not 100%. Basically Gary landed hurtful, accurate combinations, especially when Mellis was on the ropes. Mellis looked a little swollen and I was thinking a corner retirement was apt. Woolcombe almost stopped him on a few occasions. Mellis landed some deceny body shots though.

Sam Webb wko1 Geraint Harvey
Well-supported Webb looked a little tense and keen to impress but looked really fit - sinewy and lean. Was well supported and his body shots were quality. though he did get caught.

Ian Wilson wpts 4 Ian Reid

Wilson is a very slim (!) boxer but out boxed and at times hurt Ian Reid who is very tough and doesn't stop trying. Wilson is trained by brother Colin Jnr, both are pro trainer Colin Wilson Snr's sons.

Junior McDonald wpts 4 Paul Bonson
Macdonald won clearly 40-36 and has some classy shots, but Bonson is very tough and must have one of the hardest heads in boxing.

Craig Watson Wpts4 Ben Hudson
Watson is classy and won clearly but Hudson though looking a bit fleshy but is really tough and never looked like being stopped.

Didn't see Jake Guntert so can't comment. unfortunately had to leave.

Overall a decent bill, but £30 was a bit stiff for 5 fights....

Oh yeah, they introduce Napa-Power to the crowd, and also Romanov-Earl.

Romanov has steel in his eye and a big head that looks like it can take a shot, but had the weirdest Kajagoogoo 80s-style mullet I have seen for ages.....

That's a great result for Gary Woolcombe. Given his recent form it's probably fair to say he has struck off a lot of the questions regarding his power - he seems to either be stronger, or is setting himself with more authority. More respect to his power now has to be given after this win, IMO.

After seeing that video of Sam Webb it's not so surprising to see how his debut went... sounds about normal for a good prospect. I think it'll be about fight 4 or 5 before he starts showing what he's really capable of.

you say £30 was a bit much for this show, Know one of the boxers who was on the bill and he said he was glad to be working with the maloneys because the two main fight fall out and the show still went on bet it did money but eugene still want to go with the show were other poeple in this sport would had call it of i bet they did not make any money on this show, but must say over all it was a good show and there was about 600in the hall. I know what my friend got paid and if all the boxers were on the same money then i would say maloneys blew some money there last night how long can they keep going, a story in boxingnews a few weeks ago said they lost over £17000 on there june show. must have big pockets or just plain mad maybe just love boxing

Don't get me wrong, the maloneys and smaller hall promoters keep boxing alive and take the biggest risk, but I though £30 was a bit steep for 5 fights.
