We have a fighter Nicolas Petit-Biquet. He is listed in the British Boxing YearBook (1988) in it's list of European title fights as Nicholas Biquet. I would think this is his name and the petit just indicates that he was 'little' ie. Nicolas (Little) Biquet.
Do our Belgian contributors have any information or comments. I make the point because I added a bout for Nicholas Biquet and the other one did not come up so we almost had two Biquets.

Virtually all the reports in the USA newspapers and Ring of the time simply referred to him as petit biquet or, petitbiquet -- I have never seen a CNA using nicholas.

I would use Petit Biquet as the name.

I had actually entered two bouts for Petit Biquet that I had forgotten about. So we now have Nicholas Biquet and Petit Biquet. The latter did not come up as an option when I entered either Nicholas Biquet (as per BBY 1988) or Nicolas Petit-Biquet as per our database.
I am now at a loss as to which name to combine these records under. If he fought mainly in Europe and was known as Nicholas / Nicolas Biquetthen I don't want to enter him under his American form Petit Biquet. Does anyone know what contemporary European sources referred to him as ?

I can help a little with this. Looking through The Times newspaper archive I found a report from the late 30s of a Nicolas Petit-Biquet/Peter Kane fight. This mentioned Nicolas Petit Biquet - stating that he was Known as Petit Biquet in his earlier career.

Petit is French for small or little... so i'm guessing "Petit" was a nick-name Biquet may have felt he had outgrown and added his first name Nicolas, or perhaps it was a middle name. Whatever the reason, they are definately the same fighter... i've read from various sources that the Petit Biquet my grandfather Nipper Pat Daly beat, went on to become European bantamweight champion.

There is a Luc Petit Biquet on the database, who I have no idea about; but I have discovered many bouts there were originally attributed to him, in fact belonged to Nicolas... so i'm guessing either they are the same fighter, or were brothers or relatives of some sort.
