From Scottish Boxing:
Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Kevin Anderson has been told by the Commonwealth Boxing Council that he must fight either Joshua Okine who he took the title from at the end of last month or Namibia’s Ali Numembe when making his first mandatory defence.
Okine and Numembe will fight in a Final Eliminator with the winner to challenge Anderson by the 31st of March 2006. The 22 year old from Kirkcaldy can of course make voluntary defences before then.
Scotland’s other Commonwealth Champion Alex Arthur also has to defend his Super Featherweight title before March the 31st against any one of a list of opponents that includes three fellow Scots - Ricky Burns, Willie Limond and Craig Docherty. Australia’s Robbie Peden is also in the mix as is South Africa’s Mzonka Fana.
The only other Scottish boxer to be among the list of official contenders for a Commonwealth title is Greenock’s John Simpson who is looking to win the British Featherweight title vacated by reigning Commonwealth champ Nicky Cook on the 5th of November on the Scott Harrison undercard against Manchester's Andy Morris.
