My great grandfather was Jack Daniels and he fought as a heavyweight in the early 20th century. He came from Middlesex and I am led to believe that he was succesful, firstly as an amateur in the army and then profesionaly.

Boxing records show a Jack Daniels having 4 bouts between 1910 and 1913, all of which were lost. 3 bouts were against heavyweight opponents but the first was against a lightwieght opponent could this be an error or did they have mixed weight matches?

Can anyone help by providing any further information. Where was this Jack Daniels from and did he only fight 4 times in 3 years.

He most likely had far more than the three fights listed on Boxrec. The records of pre WW2 fighters on boxrec are hugely incomplete, as they were seldom formally recorded.

The only way to obtain most of these records is to sift through hundreds, possibly thousands of newspapers covering the years when these boxers were active - even then many bouts weren't reported in the press and are therefore most probably lost forever.

Yep thats what boxrec is all about.

I have sifted and found this one (Harry Jones) and added it.

Maybe one day this will be a complete data base of boxing records.

All boxing enthusiasts should join and add to it.

The records are out there somewhere!
